The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, at the weekend in Lagos, said the policemen indicted in the attack by members of the Ombatse cult group in Alayko village, Nassarawa state, on the force are not guilty until proven otherwise.
The IG who was on a visit to the Police College Ikeja, to inspect the level of ongoing renovation work, said so far, it had not been proven that the policemen gave information to the cultists, but he assured that if there was concrete proof to that effect, the Force would not hesitate to expose the men to the world.
“It is still an allegation. And as a security agency, when one thinks someone has done something against the law, we question him. In this case, it has not been proven that they gave any information to anybody. We are still investigating that. And if we have concrete proof that he has done it, we will tell the world. Until we have proved that he has done it, it is assumed an allegation.”
During the inspection visit by President Goodluck Jonathan and the Inspector-General of Police, weekend, Major General Owonibi, informed that the renovation of the 35 buildings was 95% completed.
The Corps, he said, was given a marching order on February 8, 2013, by the president, following the revelation of its dilapidated state.
