Accra-based
Africa Development Magazine has bestowed its ‘Best Governor in Africa’
award on Governor of Akwa Ibom State – Chief Godswill Akpabio, for his
development strides in the state.
Renowned Ghanaian Professor,

described the Governor as an icon of democracy and a good role model of
what leadership is about.
He said that available and verifiable facts singled out Chief Akpabio as a pride of Africa, worthy of emulation.
Soma
Brown, who spoke on behalf of the organisers, listed the numerous
achievements of the Akpabio administration in Akwa Ibom State, but
particularly noted the free, compulsory and qualitative education
policy; free medical care for pregnant women, children and the aged; and
the massive infrastructural investment as key reasons why Governor
Akpabio was chosen as recipient for the award.
Receiving the award
on behalf of Governor Akpabio, Commissioner for Information and
Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, thanked the magazine for considering
