A 79-year-old woman, Mrs. Theresa Udeji, who was allegedly kidnapped on December 13, was yesterday rescued by men of the Enugu State Police Command, arresting a member of the gang that kidnapped the woman in the process.
Reports say Mrs Udeji was abducted by gunmen in Agwu and was taken to an unknown destination.
“Following the development, operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit of the Enugu State Command began their trail which incidentally paid off on January 31, 2013 when she was successfully rescued in an uncompleted building around Nara axis of Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State by the operatives without payment of ransom,” a statement by the state police spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu yesterday said, adding that the victim had been re-united with her family.
According to Amaraizu, a suspect who gave his name as Ozoemena Mbah of Onuorie Nara had been arrested and he is currently helping the police in their ongoing investigations.
The state police commissioner, Mr. Musa Daura, has, however, assured that the command would continue to partner all relevant stake holders in the security business in order to send crime and criminality to the abyss “since security is everybody’s responsibility.”
He also thanked his men for the feat and charged them to keep up the fight against crime and criminality
