Security operatives attached to the convoy of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Friday morning dislodged an gang of armed robbers from the Enugu-Awka Expressway and rescued over 500 stranded road users.
The armed robbers had laid a siege to the route, five kilometers away from Aniocha village, and had dispossessed many motorists of their belongings, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, said in a statement.
He said the robbery operation forced many road users to abandon their vehicles on the road before the convoy arrived the spot around 10.20a.m.
The hoodlums attacked the convoy but were dislodged by the robbery gang following a superior fire exchange.
After dislodging the gang, the convoy led all the stranded commuters and motorists out of the area.
