Missing toddlers found dead after 39 days

Culled from punch
Two  toddlers in Ketu, Lagos State, who were declared missing on January 25, 2013 have been found dead in an abandoned vehicle on  the premises of a building next to theirs on Taike Street.
Punch Metro had on January 30, 2013, reported  story of the kids – Toheeb Adedokun (three) and Tajudeen Falilu ( three).
The family as well as the police had  suspected that  they were  kidnapped before the  discovery of their remains on Monday.
Our correspondent learnt that the vehicle in which the children were found was a  Honda Pilot Sports Utility Vehicle, which was used as collateral.
According to a police theory, the children went into the vehicle but were trapped inside, causing them to suffocate.
The Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, said the corpses were discovered by bank officials, who had   gone to redeem the vehicle.
She said, “On Monday, at about 4:30pm, one Phillip Odi in company  with  Julius Odetola, both of whom are employees of Berachah Microfinance Bank, reported that on the same day, they received a text message from Macdonabi Jones Enterprise Limited, a customer of the bank, who pledged his Honda Pilot as collateral.
“The bank employees said on reaching the house located at 20 Taike Street, where the vehicle was parked, they discovered the corpses of the two children.”
The tragic news, however, did not go down well with residents of the street as they alleged foul play.
Our correspondent, who visited the children’s parents, learnt that the occupants of the house where the corpses were found had fled for fear of being attacked.
Some residents told PUNCH Metro that the occupants of the building had a case to answer.
One of them , who identified herself as Iya Basira said, “How could two corpses be in a compound for over a month and no one smelt any odour?
“We looked for these children for weeks and even the occupants of that building were aware that the children were missing.”
Our correspondent observed as residents pursued one of the occupants of the building, who was strolling down the road.
“Go away, we don’t want you in our neighbourhood”, they shouted.
It was learnt that earlier, an occupant of the building had to come with two policemen to be able to take some of her properties from her apartment.
It was also learnt that the vehicle had been taken to the Special-Anti Robbery Squad, Ikeja.
The parents of the toddlers and other members of the family said they planned pursuing the case to a logical conclusion.
Toheeb’s mother, Adijat, said the death of the children was controversial because on the day they   went missing, the said vehicle was not parked in the compound.
She said, “I went to that compound to look for them. On getting there, I saw a neighbour, Sir Kay’s wife. Sir Kay is into rental service and he is also a teacher. His wife told me she saw the two children that day. I didn’t see that vehicle in the compound because I looked around.”
Asked how she heard about the death of the toddlers, she said, “Some policemen came to me this morning (Tuesday) and asked if I was the mother of one of the missing children. They showed me pictures of the children and told me to point to mine which I did. They asked me to describe the clothes my child wore that day and I told them that he wore polo shirt (army colour mixed with red) with shorts. They asked for the clothes the second person wore and I told them.
“They told the fathers of the kids to follow them but we (women) were told to go back as we might not be able to withstand the shock. When I saw my husband’s face, I knew the worst had happened.”
Our correspondent, who went round the building, a bungalow with three flats, learnt that the landlord was late and the tenants had not returned.

Mysterious Snake Demands House From Mother-In-Law?

One of the survivors of the Chitungwiza blast is living in fear amid bizarre claims that a 'snake' is demanding her mother's house.

This is the same house where the 17 year old wife of the traditional healer Speakmore "Sekuru Shumba" Mandere, who died in the explosion, lived. It's claimed that Mbuya Punduma, mother-in-law to the late sangoma, gave her daughter Liliosa Punduma to Speakmore as compensation after she failed to pay for the cleansing services he had done in fighting the snake that was demanding Malawian husband Luxon Punduma.

The deported Luxon Punduma is allegedly fighting back, speaking through the snake in her house. When our news crew visited the family, Mbuya Punduma confirmed that Luxon was deported to Malawi and is demanding support from his family but denied the snake speaking allegations.

"I grew up in a family where rituals were conducted and the late Speakmore Mandere was my son-in-law. If there is a snake in my house yanetsa munhu here? If it is inside, are you seeing it? My neighbours are spreading falsehoods following the explosion and it has reached my ears and I nearly killed one after that incident," said Mbuya Punduma.

"I have every right to consult traditional healers over my family and that must not disturb my neighbours' or church mates. Every family has its own challenges and as of me this is my house and Luxon has no claim on any part of this house. Luxon never turned into a snake; he is alive in Malawi after he was deported for not having proper documents in the country.

"I called a doctor from Mt Darwin here and he referred me to traditional healers after seeing how things were going and Speakmore helped us much in that. My sick daughter has since returned to work. Luxon even wrote a letter last year demanding his children and support from them. As for the house, it is registered in my name," she said.

Mbuya Punduma said people had been bad mouthing her after the blast.

"When the blast occurred, Liliosa had less than a week staying with him and one of my daughters, who is a teacher, had been here on sick leave. She was receiving treatment from Speakmore and that's when I also received a letter from Malawi demanding that I take the children there. With all this happening in the same month, neighbours said much about it but I believe it is one of the challenges that come in life.

"I have seven children with Luxon and he is aware that I built this house by my own after I applied for a residential stand under city of Harare. My church leader counselled me after neighbours said much about me and I never gave Liliosa to Speakmore after failing to pay him as claimed. I grew up in a family where spirit mediums were conducted to lead us and with that I did not have any problems with Speakmore.

"The results about what really caused the explosion have been released by experts and they have nothing to do with my daughter or the goblin people were talking about yet they are silent about it. All they want is to spread false rumours. My fears are that all people saying negatives about Speakmore vachasangana nezvichavanetsa vakazotsvaga hama dzake ku Chiweshe," said Mbuya Punduma.

Liliosa claimed Speakmore had predicted his death ahead of the explosion and she denied that she was given to him by her mother as compensation.

"I fell in love with Speakmore and we had a child together. I moved to settle with him some days before the explosion and it's not true I was given to him as compensation. Speakmore's body was not mutilated a lot as compared to others and I am very sure that if the ambulance arrived on time he could have been saved," said Liliosa.

PHOTO: Angry Rev Father Burns Pope Benedict’s Photo During Sermon

Church chiefs in Italy have launched an investigation after an Italian priest set fire to a photograph of former Pope Benedict XVI in front of dozens of stunned worshippers.
Father Andrea Maggi, 67, ignited the picture during a sermon, saying that Benedict had “abandoned” the Catholic Church.
He then went on to compare him, to Costa Concordia captain Francesco Schettino, who was been accused of fleeing his post and leaving passengers on the stranded cruise ship. Father Andrea, a priest for more than 40 years, told the packed service at Santo Stefano church in Castelvittorio near Imperia: “I’m doing this because he has not been a Pope, he has abandoned us.
A shepherd never leaves his flock.” Parishioners including children, looked on amazed as the picture of Benedict, who resigned last week after eight years as Pontiff was enveloped in flames before the priest let it drop to the ground and burn itself out.
Father Andrea is unrepentant, and said: “I’d said that I would burn his picture the day he left and that’s what I did. I’m glad what I did has caused such an outcry. I don’t have maize in my head. We are not in a communist state. “I’m not interested in his reasons for leaving. The job of Pope is for life. He should not have left. He’s behaved just like (Francesco) Schettino. Where is the proof of his faith? “The Pope said this was the year of faith and he then leaves his post as head of the church.”
Bishop Alberto Maria Careggio, of the diocese, said: “This was an abominable action. I’m mortified by the actions of Father Andrea who in the past has always been a very generous and sensible priest. I’m arranging a meeting with him as soon as possible.”
Benedict said he made the shock decision, the first time a Pope has resigned in 600 years because he “felt tired”. However by stepping down he has angered many Catholics and some senior Church chiefs as the job is for life. Locals in his parish, which nestles in a picturesque medieval hilltop village, have described him as “very strict and ultra orthodox”.
Before the incident Father Maggi, who has been a priest there for five years, had been complaining bitterly about Benedict’s decision. Gianstefano Orengo, mayor of Castel Vittorio, who witnessed the incident, said: “Certainly everyone knew Father Andrea was upset and angry at Benedict’s announcement. “It was a shocking thing to see. I know it may be a difficult time for him but it was still a serious thing to do.”
He pulled out a picture of the Pope and then used a nearby candle to ignite it as he started his sermon. “It lasted a minute or so and he then said Benedict had acted in a similar fashion to (Francesco) Schettino who left his post when the Costa Concordia struck rocks and with passengers still needed to be saved. People were shocked and started complaining and several including myself left the service.
There was no justification at all for it even if there are mitigating circumstances. “People were shocked and started complaining and several including myself left the service. There was no justification at all for it even if there are mitigating circumstances.” Meanwhile cardinals in Rome have begun their discussions ahead of setting a date for the start of the conclave which will elect the next Pope, with the selection process expected to begin in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel next week.

Singer Kefee Opens Up On Her Crashed Marriage

If we have to follow what the Bible teaches strictly, popular gospel singer, Kefee is one of those who has lots of questions to answer with regards to her disregard for the warnings about divorce.

Christians are strongly advised against divorce, but if you think there is no better option then you can go ahead but, either of the parties are not permitted to get married to another person unless one of the two is late. But Kefee and her first husband, Alec Godwin, disregarded this warning.

The Gospel singer is now claiming her second marriage is the first for her….

What lessons did you learn from your crashed marriage with Alec Godwin?

It only opened my eyes more to what life is all about; if you don’t go through challenges you never become a stronger person. That was a chapter in my life that was meant to make me stronger as a person. People go through challenges and that was my story and when we couldn’t carry on any longer, we had to part ways.

What have been the gains of your current marriage to Teddy Esosa?

My husband is a very nice guy and I am actually writing a book about my first marriage. The bottom line is that I am happy and if you ask me, this is the first time I am getting married.

How did you meet your husband?

We’ve known each other for a long time, and when he felt it was time, he proposed to me. The rest is now history, like they say…

HIV Cured In Baby For The First Time

Researchers say they have, for the first time, cured a baby born with HIV — a development that could help improve treatment of babies infected at birth.

There is an important technical nuance: researchers insist on calling it a “functional cure” rather than a complete cure.

That is because the virus is not totally eradicated. Still, its presence is reduced to such a low level that a body can control it without the need for standard drug treatment.

The only fully cured AIDS patient recognized worldwide is the so-called “Berlin patient,” American Timothy Brown. He is considered cured of HIV and leukemia five years after receiving bone marrow transplants from a rare donor naturally resistant to HIV. The marrow transplant was aimed at treating his leukemia.

But in this new case, the baby girl received nothing more invasive or complex than commonly available antiretroviral drugs. The difference, however, was the dosage and the timing: starting less than 30 hours after her birth.

It is that kind of aggressive treatment that likely yielded the “functional cure,” researchers reported Sunday at the 20th annual Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) in Atlanta, Georgia.

What researchers call dormant HIV-infected cells often re-start infections in HIV-infected patients within a few weeks after antiretroviral treatment stops, forcing most people who have tested HIV-positive to stay on the drugs for life or risk the illness progressing.

“Prompt antiviral therapy in newborns that begins within days of exposure may help infants clear the virus and achieve long-term remission without lifelong treatment by preventing such viral hideouts from forming in the first place,” said lead researcher Deborah Persaud, of Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

It appears to be the first time this was achieved in a baby, she said.

The baby was infected by her HIV-positive mother, and her treatment with therapeutic doses of antiretroviral drugs began even before her own positive blood test came back.

The typical protocol for high-risk newborns is to give them smaller doses of the drugs until results from an HIV blood test is available at six weeks old.

Tests showed the baby’s viral count steadily declined until it could not longer be detected 29 days after her birth.

The child was given follow-up treatment with antiretrovirals until 18 months, at which point doctors lost contact with her for 10 months. During that period she was not taking antiretrovirals.

Researchers then were able to do a series of blood tests — and none gave an HIV-positive result.

Natural viral suppression without treatment is an exceedingly rare occurrence, seen in fewer than half a percent of HIV-infected adults, known as “elite controllers,” whose immune systems are able to rein in viral replication and keep the virus at clinically undetectable levels.

Experts on HIV have long wanted to help all HIV patients achieve elite-controller status. Researchers say this new case offers hope as a game-changer, because it suggests prompt antiretroviral therapy in newborns indeed can do that.

Still, they said, their first priority is learning how to stop transmission of the virus from mother to newborn. ARV treatments of mothers currently stop transmission to newborns in 98 percent of cases, they say.

“Our next step is to find out if this is a highly unusual response to very early antiretroviral therapy or something we can actually replicate in other high-risk newborns,” Persaud pointed out.

The research was funded by the National Institutes of Health and the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

40 Hospitalized For Inhaling Toxic Gas In Kano

At least 40 people, mostly women and children, were rushed to hospital by emergency workers in Kano after inhaling what residents said was a poisonous gas at Bachirawa Kwanar Dawanau in Kano metropolis.

lagos-hospital3-300x225[1]

The incident happened around 5pm at a local aluminum smelting shop, when a young blacksmith damaged the cap of an industrial cylinder said to be containing the toxic gas, which quickly circulated in the air and knocked many residents into state of unconsciousness.

Secretary of the Bachirawa Scrap Market Association where the incident occurred, Sanusi Adamu Abbas, told Daily Trust that the boy attempted to remove the cylinder’s brass cover, when the content started flowing. “As soon as residents inhaled it, they collapsed.

About 40 people, mostly housewives and children, were affected and taken to the hospital,” he said. The secretary also said that efforts by other scrap dealers at the market to stop the leak did not succeed for hours, until after experts were invited.

“Most of the victims have been treated and discharged from the hospital before nightfall,” he said.

Confirming the incident, operations officer of Kano State Fire Service, Kasim Musa, said as soon as people inhaled the substance, they fell unconscious, adding that 40 people had been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Actor Yemi Solade Threatened To Kill Me If I Don’t Sleep With Him – Bola Animashaun

Cute Yoruba actor Yemi Solade who got involved in a messy s*xual harassment scandal last year with a lady identified as Bunmi Ladipo is currently in another messy scandal.

yemi_solade_threatens_lady

Last year Bunmi Ladipo, a US-based lady accused the actor of harassing her sexually after they met on Facebook and exchanged BB PIN.

In the previous scandal, below was what the lady said:

“I accepted his friendship request because I recognized him as an actor.

“After accepting his friend request, we started doing normal chatting and along the line, exchanged Blackberry pins. But unknown to me, his intention was beyond the normal relationship as he began to disturb me for something else, but I politely told him it is impossible because I’m happily married.

“At a point, I felt it was someone impersonating him. But I got the biggest shock of my life when he started sending me his unclad pictures and sorts. He later called on phone and I recorded the conversation. In fact, that was when I was convinced that he was actually the one harassing me sexually.”

A top female judge had séx with a prison inmate half her age in an interview room, authorities have said.

Lisa Traylor-Wolff, 52, is accused of having a “physically intimate relationship with a 26-year-old client” at the Miami Correctional Facility in Peru, Ind.

The Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications claims Traylor-Wolff, who is also a defense lawyer, began the affair before her lover was jailed.

The Indianapolis Star says the relationship then continued and that she represented him as he appealed his conviction.

She has 20 days to respond to them, before the case goes to the Indiana Supreme Court.

Traylor-Wolff is formally accused of violating four rules of professional conduct, including having s*x with a client and undermining the integrity of the position of judge.

If found guilty, she could be banned for life from holding judicial office in the state.

Traylor-Wolff, who has not commented on the claims, formerly served as a Superior Court judge in Pulaski County and was the head of her county’s Bar Association.

She graduated from Valparaiso University law school in 1986.

NICE! Man Who Lost His Manhood In An Accident Finally Has It Rebuilt (PHOTOS)

A man has had his man-hood rebuilt using skin and fat from his arm.

manpenis13[1]

Mohammed Abad’s willy and one testicle were ripped off during a horror car accident when he was just six.

Mo, now 40, was playing in the snow with friends in Huddersfield in 1978 when he was accidentally pushed under a car and dragged for 600ft down a road.

Initially he was given just 12 hours to live, but he miraculously survived and spent the next 18 months in and out of hospital.

At the time doctors built Mo a tube using skin from his leg so he could urinate, but his new “man-hood” was entirely sensationless and had no s*xual function.

He later faced questions from relatives about why he hadn’t settled down, married and had children.

But while he knew the truth about his inability to have kids, he revealed it was never really spoken about at home.

Appearing on ITV1′s This Morning today, Mo said: “My parents never sat me down from a young age and said ‘when you were young you had an accident and we were told that you can’t have (kids)’, I’ve never been told that. I’ve had to find that out for myself.”

photo

And it wasn’t until two and a half years ago, when Mo met his now wife, that he finally decided he was going to try to do something about it.

He went along to see the doctors from Channel 4 show Embarrassing Bodies, who put him in touch with experts who could help.

And now he will at last have a brand new fully-functioning manhood thanks to a series of revolutionary operations.

Mo, from Edinburgh, has so far undergone the first of three ops he will need to fully rebuild his man-hood.

Incredibly during the first 11-hour procedure doctors discovered a testicle that had been pushed up inside Mo’s body during the accident.

photo

Doctors will now look at whether the testicle is producing sperm. While Mo’s next two ops will also see medics return sensation to his man-hood and fit a pump that allows him to become aroused.

Man kills mum, dismembers and scatters her body parts in garbage bags across town

Via NY Daily News
A schizophrenic South Bronx man confessed Tuesday to dismembering his mom and scattering her body parts in garbage bags across the South Bronx, police sources said.
Deranged suspect Bashid McLean, 23 (pictured right), implicated himself in the gruesome death after investigators recovered a saw inside the apartment where he lived with victim Tanya Byrd (pictured right) and his 7-year-old brother, Nasyr.
Cops also found a shopping cart used to lug 52-year-old Byrd’s severed body parts from their home to four locations within walking distance of the murder scene, police sources said.

Byrd was terrified by McLean, who was on probation after coming at two cops with a knife in 2010, and suspected that he was battering little Nasyr. The younger brother has Down syndrome, according to one neighbor.
"I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Bashid killed her,” said a 43-year-old woman who lives in the building on Westchester Ave. in Melrose. “She was afraid of that boy. . .He was a hellion.”
When bruises began appearing on the special-needs child, Byrd suspected her older son, the neighbor said.
“Bashid had a problem controlling his rage,” said the neighbor. “He had creepy eyes. Didn’t like to look you in the eye — but when he did, they went right through you.”
Although McLean called police to report his mom was missing, he quickly emerged as a suspect in the gruesome killing, police sources said. Cops were questioning him at the 40th Precinct stationhouse late Tuesday.
McLean’s sister, Porsche Lovett, who visited him at the stationhouse, said he showed no remorse. “He looked me in the eyes and told me he did nothing wrong when he killed her,” she said. “I don’t know who he is.'Byrd’s body parts were stuffed in garbage bags and scattered throughout her neighborhood, with a dog walker spying her right leg protruding from a pile of garbage around 5 a.m., police said.
Three heavy-duty plastic garbage bags stuffed with body parts were found nearby.
The victim’s head, hands, torso, legs and shoulder were pulled from the trash bags, the sources said.
The brutal killing left McLean’s family members reeling — despite Bashid’s history of aggression and mental health problems.
“He did destructive things,” said his father, James McLean. “He set fires; nobody could control him. ”
The dead woman’s sister said Bashid nursed a grudge against Byrd over his placement in foster care while his mom battled a drug problem. They reunited when he turned 18.
“I want people to know my sister was a good mother,” said Cassandra McLean. “She always took care of him.
