2 Pakistani girls shot dead for making a video of themselves dancing in the rain

Two teenage sisters, 16 year old Noor Basra and 15 year old Noor Sheza (both pictured above) were shot dead at their home in the town of Chilas, in Pakistan after a video showing the two girls laughing and dancing in the rain was circulated via mobile phones.

Apparently dancing with your sibling in the rain and filming it is a crime punishable by death in the Northern region of Gilgit. The video caused an outrage in the town and a few days later, five men invaded the girls home and shot them dead - for - wait for it - 'tarnishing their family's name'. Their mother was also shot dead.

The girls' step-brother, a man named Khutore, is being accused of arranging their murder because he allegedly wanted to 'restore the family's honour'. The sisters' other brother filed a case against him and the four other alleged accomplices who are now on the run. The police are investigating the case.

27-year-old Actor Arrested For Abducting Monarch’s Wife

Ismaila Dauda
Ismaila Dauda
Ismaila Dauda, a 27-year-old secondary school dropout, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for an alleged abduction.
Dauda, a fledgling actor, based in Ondo, was accused of attempting to abduct the wife of the traditional ruler of Ilisan Remo in March 2013, with the help of three others- Segun, Nurudeen and an unidentified man.
However, Dauda said he was not aware that he was part of a gang of kidnappers until too late.
He said, “At the time, I was not aware that it was a planned abduction. Segun is a close friend and had borrowed my car. Because the car was without a spare tyre and not in good condition, I offered to drive him wherever he wanted.
“I was under the impression that Segun was in search of a suitable school for his teaching practice as he is a student of a College of Education,” Dauda said.
Dauda, Segun and Nurudeen allegedly left Ondo, while a fourth unidentified man was picked up at Ore. Under Segun’s direction, Dauda allegedly drove to a secondary school close to the palace of the Oba of Ilisan in Ogun State.
At about 1pm, an elderly lady was said to have driven out of the school compound and headed in the direction of the king’s palace.
Dada said, “At the time, I was unaware that she was the king’s wife. By the time she came to where we were parked, she stopped because my car was blocking her path. To my shock, Segun and Nurudeen rushed to her vehicle, brandishing guns and pulled her out. Till that moment, I had had no idea that they had guns in their possession.”
Their victim was bundled into Dauda’s waiting car and driven away. Some residents, however, raised the alarm and alerted the police after witnessing the abduction.
“It seemed Segun had stationed some spies around because while I was driving, he received a call that the police had already begun to give a chase behind us and that the neighbourhod vigilantes had mobilised ahead of us to block our escape.
“Immediately, I heard that, I could no longer drive. I was so scared, I had to drive off the road into the bush and we abandoned my car there with the king’s wife in it,” Dauda recalled.
Dauda and his friends, allegedly hid in the bush till 7pm until Segun’s spies showed up and took them all to an uncompleted building at the Ijebu-Ode end of Sagamu-Benin Expressway. The suspects were said to have hidden there till 6.30am the following day, when a vehicle arrived to convey them back to Ondo state.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, confirming the incident said, “The victim was rescued from the car unhurt although some pepper had been sprayed into her eyes to prevent her from identifying where she was to be held captive.
“All the suspects escaped from the scene. In their haste, a sim card belonging to Dauda was left in the car.
“Dauda was tracked to his home in Ondo State but he had gone into hiding in his hometown, Iwo. It wasn’t until May 19 that Dauda returned home and he was promptly arrested by the Fagun Police Division and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department, Abeokuta. Investigation is on to apprehend the other fleeing suspects.” [Punch]

2011 Elections: PDP Leadership Negotiated Jonathan’s Victory At Detriment Of Party’s Guber Candidates In S/West – Atiku

Atiku AbubakarFormer Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday attributed the “dwindling fortune” of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West to betrayal of the party’s leadership.
Atiku, a PDP chieftain and one of its founding members, in a statement on Sunday, said his assertion was based on the way the party easily coasted to victory in the 2011 presidential elections in all but one of the South-West states but failed to have any of its candidates win the gubernatorial poll.
In his words: “It still remains a paradox to me how the presidential candidate of the party would win massively in all but one state of the South-West, yet the party failed to produce a single governor in the region and could only produce 18 state Assembly members in the same election.
“My experience in politics tells me that this paradox can only be explained in one way; that is, the leadership of the party must have abandoned the party and negotiated the victory of the President at the expense of the party.”
Alleging deceit, Atiku urged the party leadership to ensure sincerity in the application of party rules and to abandon the “divide and rule policy” in handling its affairs.
He said, “Recent events have shown that the leadership of the party has demonstrated insufficient sincerity in resolving the numerous crises, which are pitting the party members against themselves.
“Political manoeuvring that relies on the politics of patronage and arbitrary application of sanctions will not sustain the popular will of the people through which the party can recover the lost ground.
“The eloquent silence of respected leaders on the various crises is a disturbing sign which leaves the majority of the members confused.”
Atiku added “The national leadership of the party needs to respect the democratic wishes of party members in the zone and discourage the deliberate creation of factions, and upturning the results of duly conducted elections at the various congresses and the national convention.
“In all we do, the adherence to the constitution of the party in the conduct of the party’s affairs is the only hope for sustaining the existence and legitimacy of the party.
“Also, the legitimacy of the party can only be sustained if the provision of the welfare needs of Nigerian citizen takes precedence in the heart of the leaders rather than primordial politicking.”

Built Inside Abandoned Quarry; $568 Million Intercontinental Shimao Hotel

One would think the space has been rendered useless after years of quarrying has left a ditch so deep and so wide no one would expect any development to surface there, but a magnificent development found its way there.
Welcome to the five-star InterContinental Shimao hotel, which is being built inside an abandoned quarry in China.
Located at the base of Tianmenshan Mountain, it extends 100 metres into the quarry, despite the water below.
It will cost a whopping $548 million to build the lavish cave hotel.
Designed by UK company Atkins, there will be 380 rooms over 19 storeys. Two levels will be underwater and will have an aquarium looking out onto an underwater restaurant and guest rooms.
The top of the hotel just pokes above the mountain, by 15 metres. The front will be visible, and the rest will be built into the mountain.
As a bonus, guests will be able to watch a 100m high waterfall from their rooms.
“The idea was to take advantage of this unique land form and to create a garden growing in the air,” Li Xuyang from Shimao Group told Shortlist.co,.
“The hotel is part of the larger project to build Shimao Shanghai Wonderland, a large-scale theme park.”
There will be a sports centre, several restaurants, a hall and conference rooms.
Rooms are expected to cost over $300 a night, and the hotel could open by 2015.
