Naeto C relocates temporarily to America as wife Nicole’s EDD draws near

Rapper Naeto C and his heavily pregnant wife Nicole Chikwe on Sunday, March 17, 2013 threw a baby shower in the US as the couple expect their first child.

In January 2013, Naeto revealed to TV host Eku Edewor while on M-Net’s entertainment and lifestyle show, 53 Extra that his wife is pregnant with their first baby.

The rapper has been in the US for many weeks, spending time with his wife as the couple eagerly await the arrival of their first baby. We’ve been told Nicole is due ‘anytime from now’.

Naeto and Nicole got married at an elaborate wedding on Saturday 21, 2012 in Lagos, Nigeria.

2face’s traditional wedding gulps N130m

The golden moment finally came for African Pop king 2face Idibia and Annie Macaulay on March 8, 2013 when the first phase of their well-publicized grand wedding kicked off in the small town of Eket Community, Akwa Ibom.

Last week, we gave you the full scoop on what went down plus which celebrity stormed the town. This week, we’ll be telling you how the whole ceremony and associated events gulped  nearly  N130m.

The couple knew the highly anticipated wedding was going to suck millions and seemed to be ready to live it up right from the start

Let’s start with the wedding invitation cards – the IVs were specially designed and printed in gold coloured sleeve. Event planners say the production would averagely cost N1m.

Then there was the cost of transportation. Close to a hundred people made their way to Eket Community from different parts of the country (although most came from Lagos and Abuja).  After wedding organizers failed to secure a deal with an airline company to fly in guests, everyone was billed standard rates – that price hangs around N4m (covering cost of air and land travels. The couple did not foot the entire bill for this as most guests financed their own trips)

Hotel accommodation and feeding at the Villa Marina and other guest houses also gulped a lot of money. Multiple hotels were used to accommodate the bride’s and groom’s friends for several nights (at least four days for close family and friends, and one night for those who came in the night before). We’ve been told about N8m went into this.

The Pre-nuptials party (or 2face’s Bachelor’s Eve party) was held at the De Javu night club on the night before the wedding. All sorts of drinks were brought out for the party – ranging from non-alcoholic, alcoholic spirits, wine and more. Those who attended say the gig which was sponsored by the state governor Godswill Akpabio could not have cost anything less than N2m. And that, we’re told, is a conservative estimate.

Getting to the wedding proper…

The wedding ceremony was organized by two different event planners – I-ma Planners headed by Imabong Ukpong and Imaginationz Events. Both companies made sure they left no stone unturned in delivering a successful traditional event beffiting of the couple’s superstar status.

The couple’s wedding attire was another highlight of the day – 2face’s customized cap, George wrapper, long sleeve top and beads, a stylist says would fall between N300k and N400k. And that also goes for the best man’s attire plus the all the friends of the groom. Annie’s attire including jewellery ‘would  cost nearly two times as much as her groom’s one source told us. Other family members, friends and guests also donned purpose-made traditional attires. Those familiar with Eket fashion tell us the glamorous attires must have cost up to  N2m

Students of the Apostolic High School, where the wedding was held wouldn’t have recognized the school on March 8 as it had been totally transformed into something else – breaths were taken away with the red-themed colourful designs, decorated with bamboo and cane chairs. An event planner tells us all that would cost close to N10m to put together, including the cost for music and other side attractions (And were there many!)

Food and refreshment at the ceremony: Trust, there was a lot to eat, drink and make merry with, we are talking three course meals, ‘small chops’, all sort of drinks ranging from soda to spirits. The groom had to also provide ‘special money’ for the bride’s family to cook 20 different delicacies. Hennessy Nigeria also flew in staff and at least one  bar. It’s okay to put all these at N6m?

The bride price: Depending on the agreement reached by the families, it would vary from N50k – N500k – this, according to Eket indigenes who spoke with NET over the weekend.

Ceremonial gifts: This ranges from traditional attires for the parents, eldest son and daughter, two goats, tubers of yam, alcohol, rolls of cigarette, more crates of beer, bag of salt and monetary gifts to different  youths groups and women in the community. Total cost – N3m

The Godswill Akpabio connection: The Akwa Ibom State’s Governor presented the couple with wedding gifts – two Toyota Prado Jeeps (N14.5m each). There was also multiple cash gifts to the couple and their friends, following a lavish dinner at the governor’s residence. We reliably gathered the total cash expenditure from the governor is over   N50m.

The Governor has also promised to sponsor a 20 man delegation to represent the state at the March 22/23 Dubai white wedding, cost for flight tickets, feeding and accommodation could be  up to N10m or more.

As you can see, the Idibias have tremendous goodwill and the bulk of the money and support came from friends and family, even though they also went all out to make their day successful.

And as we’ve been assured by insiders who know, the upcoming Dubai white wedding will gulp even more. To hold aboard a Yacht which has already been booked, we’re told the couple plan to treat guests (many of who will fly in from Lagos) to the most sophisticated and classy music industry wedding ever on March 22 and 23…Who’s doing what? Find out  next week….

How is loss of R25bn progress? iLIVE

The SAIRR was responding to the Auditor General report that found provincial departments and entities had incurred R24.8 billion in "unauthorised, irregular, wasteful, and fruitless expenditure". File photo
Image by: SIPHIWE SIBEKO / REUTERS
Our national auditor has identified almost R25-billion in wasted and irregular expenditure ("SAIRR bemoans wasted R24.8-billion of government money", yesterday).

Previously it was estimated we were losing R30-billion to corrupt officials.

All this incompetence and corruption exacts a heavy blow to our economy, the value of our rand, our global competitiveness and citizens' living standards.

Until the government agrees to a full and independent financial audit - monitored by opposition parties - of its net worth, I don't see how we can trust our president when he tells us he is cracking down on corruption.

H ave we become so docile that we accept the lower figure as a sign of good governance, instead seeing the loss of several billion as blatant theft ?

Not all abducted hostages may have been killed - Jonathan

THERE is hope that some of the foreign SETRACO construction company workers abducted in Bauchi about a month ago may not have been killed after all by their captors, the Ansaru Islamic religious sect.

This hint was given by President Goodluck Jonathan who said on Monday in Abuja that the analysis of the video posted in social media by the sect did not indicate conclusively that all of them had been killed.

Speaking at a joint press conference with the visiting Lebanese President, Michel Sleiman, at the State House, President Jonathan maintained that he suspectedsome of the captives may still be alive.

Among the seven foreign construction workers abducted from their camps by the radical sect were four Lebanese.

Ansaru had posted a video clip on the social media purportedly to show the bodies of the kidnapped victims, arguing that they had been executed because of moves by both Nigeria and British security forces to rescue them.

Jonathan explained that efforts to rescue them were hampered by a combination of the difficult terrain of the location they were held and the fear that their abductors may kill them.

According to him, “we really suspect that some (of the hostages) probably have died, either from health or other related causes or direct killing, but we still believe that not all the seven (were killed) because even the release in the social media did not really show all the seven, so we are still working on it.”

The president remarked that Nigeria was working with other countries whose nationals were also kidnapped on a way out of the crisis, stressing that the safety of the victims remained the paramount consideration of government.

He said: “From the date of the kidnap, we have been working with our own friendly nations, including the United Kingdom and others to see that this people were rescued.

“Because of the ugly experience we had when a similar situation happened and about the time we were to secure the release of the people, they were shot, security services were being careful so that if the kidnappers noticed invasion, they would not just turn round and kill the people.

“The place where they were suspected to be holding them is quite a difficult area. It is a rocky terrain that you cannot easily access.

“Over the period, they (Ansaru) released some information through the social media, but analysis of that information does not really give us a conclusive position.

“I briefed my colleague, President Sleiman, that we are still working on it and we will get to the root and if they are killed, I insist that we must get their corpse.”

Jonathan also regretted the destructive activities of Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in the country, noting that this was “a sad moment in our history. The issue of the excesses of Boko Haram and related organisations  is quite sad. It is  a very ugly phase that we are passing  through.”

Beyonce revisits Sasha Fierce in new track 'Bow Down / I Been On'

Beyoncé is ordering everyone to "Bow Down," heralding the return of Queen Bey and Sasha Fierce. Her alter egos seem to be back with a vengeance and staking claim to the next female summer anthem. And guess what: She "don't need no hype."

The Grammy-winner posted a track (warning: contains profanity) called "Bow Down / I Been On" on her website Sunday, teasing to what fans can expect from her upcoming work. She also posted a childhood picture of herself dressed up as a queen and posing in front of a mantle full of her trophies and achievements. Royal status, yo. The Ministry is not going to pretend it has a PhD in music theory, so here's a sampling of the charged lyrics:

"I know when you were little girls / You dreamt of being in my world / Don't forget it / Don't forget it Respect that Bow Down ... "

PHOTOS: Beyonce at the Super Bowl

"I took some time to live my life / But don't think I'm just his little wife / Don't get it twisted, get it twisted / This is my ... / Bow Down ... "

The song later distorts into a different track with what we can only assume is a chopped and screwed version of her voice that promptly shuts down more haters. She teased to this sound with the UK ad for her "Mrs. Carter Show" tour. Oh yeah, and she's also got this operatic thing going on in the background. Per "rapper Bey":

"I'm bigger than life / The name in the lights / I'm the the No. 1 chick I don't need no hype / The capital B means I'm about that life / The capital B means I'm about that life  / I've been on I've been on I've been on / Tell me who's going to take me off"

Here's an unoffical version of the track sans all the fancy sound tools -- you can hear her rapping with her own voice too.
MORE: 10 things about Beyonce

It's the first new music she's released since 2011's "4" album. The song is produced by Houston's Hit-Boy, who also worked on Kanye West's "Clique" and is just a sampling of what fans can expect from her and possibly her new tour.

The track is also causing a Twitter frenzy, with usage of the term "Bow Down" rising by 500,000+ tweets in the last 24 hours, according to the social media giant. As of publication time, there had been more than half a million mentions of the new song.

But who are Queen Bey's orders being barked at? Inauguration detractors? Super Bowl haters? Or people claiming she didn't actually carry daughter Blue Ivy herself? All of the above or none of the above?

One thing for sure: It's not her daughter, Blue Ivy.

In softer Beyoncé news, the singer's mommy alter ego opened up to Shape about her life sinced Blue Ivy arrived.

"I just adore being a mother, hearing her say Mama and call me when she needs something," said Bey, who said she gained 57 pounds while pregnant. "It makes me feel like I have a real purpose here. I enjoy all the things people warned me would be tough to handle."
So there you have it. Bow down to the baby.

Gold-hits-2-1/2-week-high

SINGAPORE: Gold rose above $1,600 for the first time in more than two weeks on Monday as a radical bailout package for Cyprus threatened to trigger fresh turmoil in the Eur-ozone, driving investors to seek safety in gold. But a firm dollar and general perception of an economic recovery quickly snuffed out the rally, sending gold below the key resistance level of $1,600.

The Eur-ozone agreed on Saturday to hand Cyprus a bailout worth 10 billion euros ($13 billion), but forced the country’s depositors to pay up to 10 percent on their savings, triggering fears that it could set off bank runs in other countries. This came after the Eurozone had enjoyed a few months of relative calm, investors had grown more confident in the economic recovery and banks had started paying back the crisis loans handed out by the European Central Bank.

25 killed in northern Nigeria explosions

At least 25 people were killed in a series of explosions targeting a bus station in northern Nigeria, witnesses said.

They said the blast occurred at a bus station in Kano city where commuters making intra-city and intercity travels come to board vehicles for their journey.

Soldiers and police cordoned off the area immediately after the explosions.

An eyewitness told PTI over phone that the explosions occurred mainly in an area called Sabon Gari when some commercial buses were filled with passengers and ready to commence their journey to the southern part of the country.

The eyewitness said he counted about 25 bodies after the blast. The police spokesman for the state of Kano, Magaji Majiya confirmed the incident but refused to disclose the casualty figure.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blasts so far but radical Islamist outfit Boko Haram has attacked Kano several times. Boko Haram is waging war to install an Islamic caliphate in the oil-rich African nation.

Venezuela to create new foreign exchange system

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Acting President Nicolas Maduro says Venezuela will launch a "complementary" foreign exchange system to facilitate the supply of U.S. dollars to priority sectors of the economy.

Venezuela has maintained strict currency controls since 2003, leading to complaints from businesses about a dearth of dollars and creating a currency black market. Under the controls, people and businesses must apply to the government currency agency to receive dollars at the official rate to import goods, pay for travel or cover other obligations.

Maduro told state television Monday that the new system, which would complement the old system, would direct dollars to where "resources are more urgently needed."

He said the government would offer more details on how the system will work on Tuesday, adding that it aimed to "topple the parallel dollar."

Oga At The Top, SPEAKS From Abuja

No punishment for Commander Shem since he committed no crime.

**NSCDC suspect that the Oil thieves are behind the social media attack.

**until his resumption of duty in Lagos, the crime against Nigeria’s economy was swept under the carpet. How can this hero who means business in fighting oil theft, be paid this way?

Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and the Civil Defense has broken their silence over the Lagos State commandant of the corps, Mr Obafaiye’s ‘My Oga At the Top’ saga.

The NSCDC official condemned what he described as unholy celebration of a minor error, advised Nigerians to stop falling prey of the antics of mischievous persons who had chosen to sponsor the “dirty harassment in the social media, in a bid to halt the commandant’s openness in handling oil thieves.”

They claimed that “the speculation of the error in the social media was the handiwork of vandals and their godfathers”.
Do not be surprised that even the so-called chief executives of some agencies until now, did not know their websites.

I am not saying that this is an excuse but I am saying that his personality should not have been dragged into the mud.

247NaijaGossip was enlightened about Mr Obafaiye, whom the officer said,”as you may be aware, until his resumption of duty in Lagos, the crime against Nigeria’s economy was swept under the carpet.
But how can this hero who means business in fighting oil theft, be paid this way? Those vandals should stop crying wolf over nothing.”

He also noted that the man in question is a patriotic Nigerian who does his job with diligence and passion and should be celebrated instead of being maligned.
Asked if he sensed any fowl play with the interviewers, he posited: “Well, what I do not understand is whether embarrassing their guest is part of their organisation’s goal and mission statement. I will however leave them for the public to judge.”

The NSCDC officers maintained that there is no disciplinary measure against the Lagos commandant, as he did not commit any offense.

Eva spotted with mystery man

Eva Longoria enjoyed a romantic date with a mystery man on Saturday (16 March).

The 38-year-old actress partied at Bootsy Bellows in Hollywood with the handsome hunk before moving on to Soho House with friends.

A source told X17online.com: "I don't know who that guy was, but he and Eva were flirting and laughing together the whole night. It seemed like she'd just met him and was excited to find a hot guy she could have fun with. Her girlfriends let him sit next to her the entire time and they all got along really well."

Longoria - who split from her basketball player husband Tony Parker in 2010 - recently revealed she hasn't give up on love and is still searching for her fairy tale happy ending, but is confident there are plenty of men out there who could be her perfect match.

She said: "I'm hopelessly romantic and I think there are a lot of people who could be a good match. I don't have to find a soul mate."

Even if the former Desperate Housewives star ends up staying single, she hasn't ruled out having a child through adoption because she wants a family of her own.

However, Longoria was quick to point out she wouldn't join the long list of celebrity mums parading their new infant in magazines photo shoots since she believes it is a very private and personal experience.

She explained: "If I adopt a child someday, I don't think everybody should know about it immediately. I think that it would be great because an adoption is something very private."

APC: PDP, threat to Nigeria’s democracy —ACN •ACN is the real threat —PDP

THE Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has alerted its compatriots and the international community to the danger posed to Nigeria’s democracy by the desperation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to retain power at all cost, judging by its alleged involvement in the ongoing efforts to sabotage the merger of the progressives.

In a statement issued in Lagos, on Sunday, by its national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said it was, therefore, calling on all lovers of democracy within and outside Nigeria to join in the efforts to stop the PDP and its cohorts from truncating the nation’s democracy.

This is just as the PDP decried the cry associated with the registration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the ACN and its merging partners, saying that the ACN had clearly demonstrated that it was the real threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

In a statement by its national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in a press release, on Sunday, the PDP said “the ACN has shown that it is the real threat to Nigeria’s democracy and it is unyielding in its plot to truncate the system with propaganda, lies and media deceit.”

Earlier, the ACN had said “having misgoverned Nigeria since the country’s return to democratic rule in 1999, the PDP, realising that its time is up, has now resorted to a dangerous game aimed at either keeping the party in power at all costs or crashing the country’s democracy.

“This is a dangerous game that must be stopped, with the good people of Nigeria, not just the progressives, leading the charge.”

ACN described the events of the past few weeks, during which the PDP was allegedly using some of its members to scuttle the registration of the APC as a throwback to 1993, when the then military junta supported the so-called Association for Better Nigeria (ABN) to scuttle the presidential election.

‘’Ironically, in seeking to stop the All Progressives’ Congress, the PDP has now shot itself in the foot, as discerning Nigerians do not believe in its denials of any linkage with the so-called African Peoples Congress.

“An official of the PDP, employing warped logic at its crudest, even had the temerity to insult Nigerians by suggesting that the opposition may be the one engineering the registration crisis to gain popularity! In any case, what is now happening to the PDP will speed its demise, and that is what happens when desperation clouds the sense of reasoning,’’ the party said.

Reacting, however, the PDP said “ACN spokesman, Lai Mohammed, should be bold enough to tell Nigerians the relationship his party has with the chief press secretary to the INEC chairman, Mr Kayode Idowu.”

Metuh further said the ACN was seeking to heat up the policy with “its unpatriotic statements and desperate lust for power for selfish reasons,” adding that “the ACN has continued to make mountains of a mere name registration.”

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, has dissociated himself from the alleged involvement in the move to register the African Peoples Party (APC).

The aide, alongside other PDP stalwarts, were fingered in the ploy targeted at frustrating registration of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to the inclusion of his name in the saga, Gulak said the function of his office was principally to advise President Jonathan on how to maintain political stability.

Gulak, who spoke through the head of media and public affairs in his office, Chief Perry Opara, in a statement, noted that efforts by disgruntled persons to disparage his office should be discountenanced.

“Any claim by persons or groups that the special adviser to the president on political affairs is involved in the registration or otherwise of a political party is false and should be disregarded,” he said.

PDP wins 5 chairmanship seats

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won five chairmanship seats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja Area council election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with 44 councillors emerging, while the All Nigerian People’s Party (ANPP) won one chairmanship seat and 10 councillorship seats.

This is just as the PDP mocked the opposition political parties, saying that the outcome of the election was an indication that Nigerians had rejected the much-touted move to form a mega party.

According to a statement made available to newsmen by Mr Okeize Nwankwo, Head of Public Affairs of the FCT INEC, on Sunday, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Congress for the Progressive Change (CPC) had three councillors each, with three outstanding seats.

According to the statement, PDP won the chairmanship seats of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abaji Area Council, Kuje Area Council, Bwari Area Council and Kwali Area Council, while the ANPP won the chairmanship seat of Gwagwalada Area Council.

It added that the PDP won 11 councillorship seats in AMAC, while the CPC had one seat; in Abaji, PDP had six councillorship seats, ACN, three, while one was outstanding.

In Gwagwalada, according to the statement, ANPP had eight councillorship seats, PDP, two; Kuje, PDP had nine councillorship seats and one outstanding; Bwari: PDP, seven councillorship seats, CPC, one and in Kwali, PDP had nine councillorship seats, while ANPP had one.

Speaking through its national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in a statement in Abuja, on Sunday, the PDP said the victory was a landslide, adding that the opposition had failed.

Meanwhile an attempt to  abduct a reporter of the Nigerian Tribune at one of the collation centres in Kubwa was foiled by the police and the operatives of the State Security Service (SSS), who quickly rescued him and whisked him to a nearby police station for safety.

Peter Odemwingie in new Twitter rant against West Brom

Striker says he is out on his own at The Hawthorns - and claims he injected steroids when the club needed him to be fit.
Peter Odemwingie launched a fresh Twitter attack on West Bromwich Albion after being consigned to the substitutes' bench since his failed bid to leave The Hawthorns in January.

Odemwingie had previously delivered a series of Twitter rants against the club after having a transfer request rejected at the start of the year, and he once again vented his frustration after being omitted from the Baggies' starting line-up for the last four games.

His tweets included a claim that he injected steroids "numerous times" when the club needed him to be fit, believed to be a reference to standard pain relief jabs.

He tweeted on Sunday that he was being frozen out at The Hawthorns and said: "Keeping me on the bench now is worst than what they did on the 31st. New advisers told me to take say its all my fault cos its better or me.

"If they like they shouldn't even give me 10 mins to play. Threatening to ruin my career? Career I closed already last summer? No harm to me.

"Has anyone seen me give interview to clubs website for a year now ? What about an interview in match day magazine ? I am on my own there."

The 31-year-old striker had been a target of QPR throughout January and had repeatedly voiced his displeasure at not being allowed to leave.

Odemwingie then memorably turned up at Loftus Road without permission on transfer deadline day only to be left in the cold as his planned move to QPR collapsed, an act described by Baggies head coach Steve Clarke as "total lunacy".

The Nigeria international last month apologised for his actions during that period and also accepted the disciplinary action taken by West Brom for his conduct.

Other tweets on Sunday included: "Former Albion sporting director in the presence of the new and Manager apologised to me in private. Publicly not good ?

"Drive was lunacy ? Missing in the training section that day also lunacy ? They forgot to complain about that though cos they knew were I was.

"Things have almost got back to normal till Peter spoilt it again. What's normal ? We see things differently obviously.

"Was ready to give half of the contract there and earn less to make it happen. Forcing a move really is when u want to leave 4 free."

The Baggies would have been hoping that was the end of the issue but, after only featuring as a second-half substitute in the club's recent fixtures, Odemwingie has once again hit out.

Odemwingie is under contract with Albion until the summer of 2014.

Lover Arrested Over Alleged N40m Fraud

Policemen attached to Lion building division, Lagos, have arrested a staff of the Ketu branch of an old generation bank and his lover who is a student of the Lagos State University, Jibowu campus, for allegedly defrauding his employers of N40 million .

The banker identified as Ade Ahmed, was arrested last month for allegedly withdrawing the amount from his employer's account.

Police sources hinted that further investigation led to the discovery of part of the money in Ade's undergraduate lover's account, subsequent upon which she was also arrested.

But in her confessional statement, Ade's girlfriend simply identified as Mary, claimed she was oblivious of the source of the money.

"All my boyfriend told me was to give him my ATM card and pin number, saying he wanted to transfer some money into my account and I gave him.

He thereafter, warned me not to tell anybody because according to him, he wanted to use it for business", the Computer Science student reportedly said.

But after much scrutiny, she was alleged to have admitted that her boyfriend later told her the sum of N3.7 million deposited in her account was withdrawn from his employer's account.

The lover birds have reportedly been charged to Tinubu Magistrate court for stealing.
