7 Foods That Help You Sleep Well

If you find yourself staring at the ceiling late into the night, try these foods to help you drift into blissful sleep.
A cup of chamomile tea: For centuries, chamomile has been harnessed as a herb that alleviates anxiety and promotes relaxation.
A cup of chamomile tea
A handful of almonds: soak almonds in clean water in the morning. At bedtime, slide off their skins and munch on them slowly. The magnesium in almonds relaxes muscles and their protein content keeps your sugar levels stable while you sleep.
almond
A bowl of oatmeal: Every now and then, I stir up oatmeal for dinner because it feels so warm and comforting. Only recently, I learned that I’m actually helping myself sleep better by doing so. The fiber and minerals in them do a wonderful job of easing the body and mind. Do avoid sugar in your oatmeal, though.
A bowl of oatmeal
Half a cup of cottage cheese: Wara it is called in Yoruba language. The slow-digesting proteins in cottage cheese/paneer keep your digestive system relaxed all night long. Besides, it contains tryptophan, the amino acid that plays a key role in promoting better sleep.
Half a cup of cottage cheese
A bunch of grapes: I was surprised to know that grapes are the only fruit that contain melatonin, the hormone famous for coming to the rescue of those who cannot sleep. Just munch grapes on their own or stir them into a bowl of yogurt for a lovely and soothing bedtime snack.
A bunch of grapes
Banana: the secret here is three-fold—potassium, magnesium and tryptophan, which combine in one wonderful fruit to help you say ‘goodnight.’
A banana
Toast: it’s hot, filling and comforting. And surprise, toast actually helps you sleep well, thanks to its being a trigger for insulin production, which in turn boosts the sleep-friendly brain chemicals serotonin and tryptophan.

Mad Woman Miraculously Regains Her Senses after Being Hit by a Car

The story has been told about the miraculous cure of a 40-year-old mentally ill woman who has been simply identified as Olubisi Aina at Sanyo area of Ibadan, Oyo State on Tuesday, 11th December, 2012 after an auto accident.
According to the Tribune, which reported the story, the way and manner in which Olubisi Aina regained her sanity after about a decade or more of insanity is amazing and it could be described as a wonder. Aina had been insane for 10 years or thereabout and paraded herself, most often nakedly, on the Sanyo-Temidire-Agbamu road, her habitation for over a decade.
She usually slept on her back with her face up in drainages or on the main road close to the bridge on Damo River in the area; and come rain or shine, Olubisi was always in her habitat and is well known in the neighbourhood. Perhaps that was her saving grace on Monday, 10th December, 2012 when a car ran over her where she was sleeping at about 9a.m.
Olubisi was quickly rushed to Oore-Ofe Hospital and Maternity Home where her bruised mouth and legs were attended to. However, after being discharged, patron of the hospital, Mr Toyin Adesina, advised that she should have a bath. She was later led by acquaintances to Damo River where she was given new sponge and soap for her bath. As she raised the sponge above her head, she said “Thank you God” in Yoruba Language. Instantly, she regained her sanity and whatever question was posed to her, she answered accurately!

Villagers Recount Last Moments Of Crashed Helicopter

Naval pilots – Commander Murtala Daba and Lt. Adeyemi Sowole – tried in vain to land the helicopter which crashed on Saturday at Okoroba community in Nembe Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Patrick Yakowa; the former National Security Adviser, Gen. Owoye Azazi, and two of their aides died alongside the two pilots.
Eyewitnesses said the pilots appeared to have sighted a space at the swampy mangrove, few metres to the crash site, and made some efforts to land the ill-fated helicopter.
In an unclear circumstance, the helicopter was said to have attempted going up again but in the process, its blades hit one of the palm trees surrounding the area and it came crashing.
It was learnt that Yakowa’s mobile telephone was intact as it kept ringing after the crash.
“When we brought the body out, we started hearing sounds of phone ringing from the left side of his pocket.
We later discovered that calls were coming to the telephone and it could be from concerned persons but no one answered,” a security source, who pleaded anonymity, said.
Wrecked and burnt parts of the chopper were found littering the area.
The swampy mangrove filled with tall trees and vegetation is located few kilometers to the Okoroba community, off the Ogbia Nembe waterways.
The personal effects of the deceased had been removed from the scene and their charred remains evacuated by security operatives and officials of the National Emergency Management Agency.
An eyewitness, who identified himself as Anthony Marcus, told that a farmer close to the area saw the helicopter as it crashed.
Marcus, who led our correspondent to the crash site, said the farmer raised the alarm that attracted other villagers to the difficult terrain
“When we got there, there was smoke everywhere. But we saw the legs of Kaduna State Governor. The legs were not burnt and part of his traditional attire was intact. We knew him through his attire. But other bodies were burnt beyond recognition,” he said.
He added, “I was at the burial ceremony when the chopper took off. It didn’t take off normally and it was flying very low.”
But it was learnt that some top military officers recovered the black boxes of the helicopter to determine the real cause of the tragedy.
It was also learnt that the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Ogbia, waterside Saturday night shortly after the rescue team located the site and moved to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, under the cover of darkness.

Angry Nigerian woman calls police and says husband is going to blow up plane after pair had a fight

A Nigerian man was grabbed by police at Newark Airport on Saturday after police were tipped off that he planned to 'blow up' a Delta Airlines flight to Paris.

But authorities now believe that the information, that came from the suspect's wife, was a false accusation following nothing more than a domestic dispute.

The New York Post reports that Eunice Ukaegbu, 50, rang police on Okieze Ukaegbu, 58, because the couple had just had a big fight and she didn’t want him to leave the country without her.

Eunice (pictured above) told the Post that she just thought she was just acting on her civic duty. 'He told me he was going to blow up the airplane. I did what an honest citizen would do,' she said.
The NJ nurse claims her husband 'is a little secretive.' Her story is that she first became concerned as Okieze had been acting distantly.

When she couldn't open his suitcase, Eunice felt she had to warn authorities. Police and federal agents rushed to the Ukaegbu family home in Union, New Jersey, to question the possible 'terrorist.'
Luckily for Okieze, the couple's daughter overheard the incident and rang her father to tell him that police were on the way to apprehend him at Newark Airport.

Okieze had already passed through security and was waiting for a Delta flight to Paris, the first leg of his trip to Nigeria.

He remained at Gate B45 until authorities arrived, then calmly told them that his wife was lying and had an 'alcohol problem.'

Police took Okieze in for questioning, pulled his luggage off the plane and checked it with bomb detection dogs.

This caused the man to miss his flight but sources at the Post claim other travelers did not experience significant delay.

After interrogation and searches, Okieze was released and cleared to take a later Delta service to Paris.

While his wife claims she contacted police out of genuine concern, they don't believe her story. Authorities now say they plan to charge Eunice Ukaegbu.

'It looks like that marriage went up in flames,' a police source told the Post.

My Mother’s Abductors Held Her For 5 Days Without Food – Okonjo-Iweala

Nigeria’s minister of information and coordinating minister of the economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has narrated the trauma her mother, Kamene Okonjo, passed through for five days in the hands of her abductors.
Okonjo-Iweala, managing director of the World Bank, attends a session at the WEF in the Swiss Alpine resort town of Davos
The minister while thanking Nigerians, the government and the Police, also expressed appreciation to God for bringing her mother back.
“I can’t give all the details because we don’t want to compromise on-going investigations”, she said while speaking for the first time on the kidnap saga. “But I can tell you one thing: My mother suffered a great deal during this ordeal. It was only the Almighty God that rescued her from a situation that could very easily have ended tragically.
“Apart from the emotional trauma of being violently taken away from her family and kept incommunicado for five days in a strange environment, a woman of 83 years was left without food for five days. We give glory to God that she is alive today to tell the tale.
“While she was in their custody, the kidnappers spent much of the time harassing her. They told her that I must get on the radio and television and announce my resignation. When she asked why, they told her it was because I did not pay ‘Oil subsidy money’.
“They also said I had blocked payment of money to certain components of the SURE-P programme.” The minister however denied the claims that she blocked payments for oil subsidy maintaining that all verified claims of oil subsidy were being paid after going through the necessary processes. However she said, “in the case of SURE-P, that is a totally different process that I have no control over.”
She however insisted that fraudulent subsidy claims would not be acknowledged. “For marketers whose transactions are proven to be fraudulent, the position of the Jonathan government is also clear: we cannot and we will not pay. We will not back down on this. We will continue to stand firm,” she declared.
“This is the right thing to do. And this, I believe is what the Nigerian people want,” Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala concluded.

Akwa-Ibom: Public Secondary School Students Banned from Using Cell Phones during School Hours

cellphonePublic secondary school students in Akwa-Ibom State have henceforth been banned from using cell phones within school hours. Any student caught flouting the rule will be severely punished, the state’s commissioner for Education, Mrs Eunice Thomas has warned.
The commissioner who made this statement at the weekend, during a media chat with a section of journalists in the state, maintained that her action was to address the long observed distraction due to use of cell phones by students in public secondary schools. She said the measure is to ensure maximum utilisation of the present administration’s huge investment in the educational sub-sector and achieve the government’s dream of producing quality products from the free and compulsory educational policy of the state government.
Pointing out that, the state has been able to make education free and compulsory and that the ministry is working at improving the quality of education through training and retraining of school heads and teachers to ensure they are well equipped to impact on the students, the commissioner also disclosed that there have been unscheduled checks on schools currently embarked upon by the ministry. Thomas then assured that the measure is not to victimise teachers but to ensure that the job committed to them do not suffer.
She however vowed to continue taking an on-the-spot decision as to punishment at the premises of any erring teachers as well as schools and school heads to avoid being influenced by the society on behalf of such offenders. Her words: “Because we earn our living by teaching the children, we would be cheating the children by not teaching them well, so we have to ensure that the teachers rise to the challenges of justifying the confidence reposed on them by both government and parents.”

GUY RUNS ON TO PITCH JUST TO HUG MESSI

43-Year-Old Woman Arrested For Allowing Her Teenage Boyfriend Assault Her 12-Year-Old Niece

A 43-year-old woman is alleged to have forced her 12-year-old niece to be intimate with her (the aunt’s) teenage boyfriend in exchange for cooking oil.
Constance Musonza and her 18-year-old boyfriend, Talent Chigadzira, were arrested last week on charges of r*pe and abuse of a minor. They later appeared before Bindura magistrate Mr William Bhila who remanded them in custody.
Prosecutor Mr Nyasha Chengeta told the court that Musonza and Chigadzira had been dating for a long time. He alleged Musonza – who assumed the girl’s guardianship after her parents died – sent the minor to Chigadzira’s home to collect cooking oil on several occasions. She would also allegedly instruct her to remove her underwear once she arrived, allowing Chigadzira to sexually abuse her.
It is further alleged that Musonza did not take any action after the girl reported that her privates, at some point, bled profusely after the abuse. She, in fact, the court heard, reminded the minor that Chigadzira was providing them with cooking oil.
The State also alleged Musonza, Chigadzira and the girl were working in a maize field on a particular day when the 43-year-old suddenly returned home, pretending to have forgotten “something”.
Chigadzira then allegedly defiled the minor who later developed a private part infection that saw her seek treatment at a nearby hospital.
The abuse only came to light after hospital authorities queried the origins of the infection.

Security Guard In Court For Taking Pictures Under A Woman’s Skirt

A Dubai Mall

A security guard accused of s*xually molesting a woman in Dubai, by taking pictures under her skirt at a shopping mall has pleaded guilty to the charge in court on Sunday.
“She was wearing a very short skirt. The way she dressed that seductive dress aroused me and urged me to take secret snaps from under her skirt with my mobile phone camera,” claimed the 32-year-old Indian security guard at the Dubai Court of First Instance.
Prosecutors accused the defendant of s*xually molesting the 29-year-old Russian businesswoman by using his mobile phone camera and taking pictures of her.
According to the accusation sheet, the defendant molested the Russian woman and a number of unidentified women by similarly taking secret snaps of their private parts from under their skirts.
“Why did you take those footages?” presiding judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi asked the accused.
The man said it was the way the women dressed that incited him to his illegal actions.
The businesswoman testified that another woman told her that the man had taken some photos from under her skirt at Ibn Battuta Mall on October 11.
“I didn’t pay much attention to an Indian man when I felt that he was following me. Shortly after that a woman informed me that the same man took secret photos from under my skirt. I informed the mall’s security and they apprehended him. He played to us the footage that he took,” claimed the businesswoman.
Prosecution records said police seized the suspect’s mobile phone and found 11 similar recordings of unknown women in shopping malls.
When asked by prosecutors why he took the indecent images of women, he claimed it was to please himself.
A judgment will be heard later this month.

Nurse reveals the top 5 regrets people make on their deathbed

For many years I worked in palliative care. My patients were those who had gone home to die. Some incredibly special times were shared. I was with them for the last three to twelve weeks of their lives. People grow a lot when they are faced with their own mortality.
I learnt never to underestimate someone’s capacity for growth. Some changes were phenomenal. Each experienced a variety of emotions, as expected, denial, fear, anger, remorse, more denial and eventually acceptance. Every single patient found their peace before they departed though, every one of them.
When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently, common themes surfaced again and again. Here are the most common five:
1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
This was the most common regret of all. When people realize that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.
It is very important to try and honour at least some of your dreams along the way. From the moment that you lose your health, it is too late. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.
2. I wish I didn’t work so hard.
This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children’s youth and their partner’scompanionship. Women also spoke of this regret. But as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.
By simplifying your lifestyle and making conscious choices along the way, it is possible to not need the income that you think you do. And by creating more space in your life, you become happier and more open to new opportunities, ones more suited to your new lifestyle.
3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.
We cannot control the reactions of others. However, although people may initially react when you change the way you are by speaking honestly, in the end it raises the relationship to a whole new and healthierlevel. Either that or it releases the unhealthy relationship from your life. Either way, you win.
4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying.
It is common for anyone in a busy lifestyle to let friendships slip. But when you are faced with your approaching death, the physical details of life fall away. People do want to get their financial affairs in order if possible. But it is not money or status that holds the true importance for them. They want to get things in order more for the benefit of those they love. Usually though, they are too ill and weary to ever manage this task. It is all comes down to love and relationships in the end. That is all that remains in the final weeks, love and relationships.
5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.
This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called ‘comfort’ of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content. When deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again. When you are on your deathbed, what  others think of you is a long way from your mind. How wonderful to be able to let go and smile again, long before you are dying.
Life is a choice. It is YOUR life. Choose consciously, choose wisely, choose honestly. Choose happiness.

Armed Man In Mitt Rommey Mask Robs Bank In Washington

Bank robber with Mitt Romney mask
(Scroll down for video) The least likely man to rob a bank would be Mitt Romney, but that is exactly what happened in Virginia, according to police reports.

Rich guy Mitt Romney, becomes an unlikely bank robber.

A bank robber waving his gun, with a Mitt Romney mask on his face shocked workers and customers at a Virginia Wells Fargo bank last week two years after a bank robber in a Hillary Clinton mask robbed the same bank in the suburbs of Washington, D.C.

The local TV station reported that the Romney thief, who also wore a Florida State sweatshirt, methodically collected cash from each of the five bank tellers before fleeing the scene.
Police have asked staff at a Party City store behind the mask if someone has recently purchased one of the Romney masks on sale there.

In December 2010, another robber in a political mask of Hillary Clinton raided the same bank location in Sterling, Virginia, which was then a branch of Wachovia.

Man On The Run After He Impregnates His Mother For The Second Time

If one time was not bad enough for him to taste the forbidden and sacrilegious fruit, he did it a second time, according to reports.
A man has fled his home in Pote Village, Mashonaland Central Province in Zimbabwe, after allegedly impregnating his mother a second time, according to the British news media. The mother also fled the village.
Google Image
Simon Matsvara and his mother Ethel Vhangare decided to leave the village after church members learned of the alleged pregnancy. Just four years ago, the two were reportedly fined by the village elders when Vhangare suffered a miscarriage after getting pregnant from her son.
The village chief, Chinamhora, said that the community was outraged by the allegations and has organized a team to find Matsvara and Vhangare. “We will hunt the two and we will severely punish them sending a clear message to potential offenders that we will not tolerate these acts,” he told the state-run newspaper.
The couple reportedly began their incestuous relationship back in 2008, when asked by the Matsvara family to care for his ailing father, Agripah, who later died. When the mother became pregnant for the first time, they were fined and told to end their relationship. News of the alleged second pregnancy occurred when the mother began to skip church and members visited their home. It was there that they found the mother was five months pregnant, allegedly by her own son.
The two reportedly left their village shortly after the discovery and are believed to be on the run.

The gunmen who invaded the area on Saturday at about 2am reports say slaughtered three of their victims, Mallam Zakariya Gwoza a bricklayer, Mallam Mustapha a serving policeman, and Mallam Kolo a retired policeman. It was learnt that when effort to slaughter the village head, Bulama Aisami failed, they shot him dead in the presence of his family members.
A neighbour to the slain serving policeman, Mustapha, who spoke on condition of anonility said, he heard strange voices in the compound, but because of the 6am to 9pm curfew imposed on the city, there was nothing they could do than to resort to prayer.
He added that, as early as 6am on Sunday, they were trapped in their house for about an hour when the men of the Joint Task Force, JTF, came and cordoned off the area.
He said, after the JTF cordoned off the area, they recovered the remains of the four victims and conveyed it to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital’s mortuary.
Another eyewitness said the gunmen who carried out the attack walked on foot with rifles, knives and cutlasses.
“When I peeped through my window yesterday at that time of the night, five people with rifles and other dangerous weapons walked to the house of the ward head (Bulama) and chanted, Allahu Akbar (God is great) before I started hearing people wailing and crying for help; two hours to the calls for the dawn prayers in the area,” he said.
Another resident disclosed that the ward head was said to have been attacked and killed by the Boko Haram gunmen, because he was alleged to be an informant to security agents on activities and hideouts of sect members in his Pompomari ward of Maiduguri.
He, however, said he heard several gunshots at the residences of the two policemen killed in the area, adding that; “the two policemen were feared shot dead in their houses, while the ward head and a bricklayer were slaughtered in their respective residences”.
The Borno State Police Command spokesman, Gideon Jibrin while confirming the multiple killings on Sunday said there were early morning attacks on the residences of a ward head and two policemen in Pompomari ward.
He said apart from the killing of the village head, one civilian and two police officers were feared killed in the 2.30am attacks by suspected hoodlums. [VN]
