Africa Cup of Nations 2013: Nigeria have Ivory Coast plan

Two penalties at the death from Victor Moses sent the Super Eagles through at the expense of holders Zambia.
They will now face hotly-tipped Ivory Coast after they secured top spot in Group D with one fixture to spare.
Keshi, 50, said: "Now we face title favourites Ivory Coast. I have a game plan but that is for the players."
Nigeria and Zambia came into the final round of matches
in Group C tied on points, goal difference and goals scored.
Zambia had accrued less yellow and red cards, and with both games locked at 0-0, Herve Renard's side would have progressed due to their superior disciplinary record before Moses broke the deadlock in the 79th minute.
"I wasn't checking the scoreline of [the other] match, I wasn't paying attention," Keshi said. "I was focused on my team, my concern was for us to get one goal.
"Ethiopia was a very good team and we knew that every opportunity could make the difference. Soccer is a 90-minute game."
Star midfielder John Obi Mikel echoed Keshi's words about the hard-fought victory.
"We knew they [Ethiopia] were coming looking to win the game as well," he said. "They were very organised in the middle and we tried to make sure we didn't play in the middle. All throughout the game it was tough."

Keshi had come into the game on the back of fierce criticism at home after his new-look Nigerian side had surrendered leads in two laboured 1-1 draws against Burkina Faso and Zambia.
The former international defender had also been questioned after he decided to discard established names such as Taye Taiwo and Peter Odemwingie in a bid to bring through a new generation of players. He believed the worth of this approach had been proven by his side's progression in South Africa.
Keshi said: "I thought Sunday Mba was outstanding in midfield and his introduction is part of my plan to build a team around young players, and senior players like captain Joseph Yobo, vice-captain Victor Enyeama and John Obi Mikel.
"This is a victory for Nigerians where ever they are in the world. This is a time for celebration."
While Nigeria were left to celebrate a quarter-final date with Ivory Coast on Sunday, Ethiopia exited at the bottom of the table as they endured a difficult first qualification since 1982.
"We were playing well but unfortunately in the end we allowed the goals," Ethiopia coach Sewnet Bishaw said.
Dog Helps Woman Give Birth
Pets have become a major part of family life. Now, a pregnant woman was allowed to take her dog to the hospital to help the woman throughout the birth. The maternity ward at St. Michael’s Hospital, in England, allowed the woman to take her dog, inside the delivery room, “because it is a certified therapy dog.”
The presence of the dog was discussed and agreed upon in advance, with the hospital’s infection control team giving their approval that it could be in the room during labor as therapy for the woman. A thorough cleaning of the delivery room was done after the dog, named Barney, left. Head of midwifery at St. Michael’s Hospital, Sarah Windfeld, said: “Barney is a certified Pets as Therapy or PAT dog, and it regularly visits patients in the hospital.”
Pets as Therapy, is a charity founded in 1983. Volunteers take their own friendly dogs and cats, who have been tested and vaccinated, to visit hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, schools and more to provide therapeutic visits for those in need.
To date, there are about 4,500 active dogs and 108 cats in the Pets as Therapy program, in the United Kingdom. Each week, these calm friendly dogs and cats give more than 130,000 people, both young and old, the pleasure and opportunity to hug and talk to them.

Olusola Oladimeji, the driver of the Toyota Sienna that fell off the Third Mainland Bridge into the lagoon on Saturday, has described his escape as a miracle.
The father of three said contrary to reports by traffic and emergency officials, he was not on high speed when the incident occurred.
Oladimeji, who is a minister of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church, said he was on his way home from work.
He said, “I work on the island and I left home for a meeting in the early hours of Saturday. After the monthly environmental sanitation, I started driving back home.
“I was driving at the speed of 60km/hr and was on the fast lane because the road was free. At Ebute Meta bypass, I saw two vehicles that had been involved in an accident but I kept on driving. Suddenly, everything went blank, I couldn’t see anything again, and I just found myself in the water.”
Oladimeji said he did not lose consciousness in the water and as such, was able to loosen the seat belt.
He said in the water, he saw a ray of light and swam towards it.
He said, “I was not on high speed. When the car hit the railing of the bridge, the airbag was not released.
“After falling into the water, I unfastened the seat belt and noticed that one of the doors of my car had broken off, so I swam out of the vehicle to the surface of the water even though I don’t know how to swim.
“It was while I was waving my hand that fishermen saw me and quickly came to my aid. They took me away from the scene and took me to a clinic located on the water where they administered the first aid.”
Oladimeji was later taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital where an X-ray scan was conducted on him.
“The doctors said that my leg was not fractured. They, however, cast my leg with Plaster of Paris because I had a sprain,” he said.

University Final Year Student, 5 Others Arrested For Kidnapping In Ogun
The Ogun State Vigilance Service, Sunday, said it had arrested six suspected kidnappers including a final year student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, Ago-Iwoye, (name withheld) who demanded a sum of N25million ransom from their victim’s family.
Speaking to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Soji Ganzallo said that the suspects had on Thursday trailed one Aremu Peters from his office located at number 86 Ibadan road,Ijebu-Ode, at about 7.00p.m. and subsequently kidnapped him.
According to Ganzallo, the command on receiving the information moved in swiftly and was able to locate their hideout, rescued the victim and arrested the suspects.
Narrating his ordeals in the hands of the kidnappers, Peters said he got his freedom 48 hours after he was abducted, saying the kidnappers pointed a gun at him, collected his car key and immediately put him inside the car booth.
They later abandoned the car at Iwesi quarters, Ijebu-Ode, at around 8.00pm.
“I was blindfolded and on arrival at their hide-out, I was tortured and asked to put a call through to my family. The gang leader demanded for N25million ransom.
They called my family on my phone and ordered them to pay N25million ransom.
They tied my hands. But after much pleas, they reduced the ransom to N5million. At that stage, I asked my family to sell my house and other valuables to save my life before luck ran against them when the vigilance service burst the hideout and rescued me,” the victim said.
Confessing to their crime, the gang leader said they kept their victim in the car booth before they took him to the hideout located at Ajobo village, in Odeda Local Government Area, along Abeokuta-Ibadan road.
He added that they fed their victim with bread, soft drink and sachet water within 48 hours of the victim’s captivity.
Ganzallo told newsmen that findings revealed that the victim’s car was abandoned by the gang in Ibadan. He said the suspects would be handed over to the police. [VN]

The widow disclosed that it the devastating effect of the demolition exercise carried out by the former FCT minister, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai that claimed the life of her husband.
“The building my husband built in Karmo was demolished by El-Rufai. This affected my husband so much that he couldn’t rise up financially again after that. It was the effect of the demolition that affected him and he died eventually. After his death, my children and I were thrown into abject poverty. There was no where we could start from and nobody or even relations were willing to help us. It got so bad that my children who had dropped out from school, and I were begging daily for sustenance.”
The mother of three, who claimed to have embraced prostitution recently when all else failed, disclosed that life too in the fast lane is not as rosy as she thought.
She said that she makes between N500 and N2,000 a night which is meagre compared to the amount they pay for lodgings at the brothel.
“We pay N5, 400 for accommodation weekly and I have not even gotten enough to pay this week’s rent,” she said as at the time of conducting this interview.

If an attacker were to attempt vaginal r*pe, his man-hood would enter the latex sheath and be snagged by the barbs, causing the attacker excruciating pain during withdrawal and giving the victim time to escape. The condom would remain attached to the attacker’s body when he withdrew and could only be removed surgically, which would alert hospital staff and police.
Like most condoms, r*pe-aXe also usually prevents pregnancy and the transmission of HIV and sexually transmitted Infections. r*pe-aXe was unveiled on August 31, 2005 in South Africa. Although media coverage at the time implied that mass production was due to begin in April 2007, the device has never been marketed to the public and it remains unclear whether the product will ever be available for purchase.

“I lived in hell on earth. I lived in fear, pains and anguish. I kept all these to myself because I didn’t want my home to break”, Oluwatosin said in her evidence-in-chief.
“The worst part of it was that my husband was dating a neighbour’s wife and even brought her to my matrimonial home and I caught them pants down.
“My husband is now married and the other woman is right inside his house. While with him, he would beat me with iron rod. He pampered me when I was delivered of a baby, after that, he resumed his beating habits. I am tired of the marriage” she cried.
In urging the court to grant her request, Oluwatosin said, “I want the court to end the union and grant me custody of the children.” However, her 42-year-old husband, did not appear in court.

Boko Haram is not a product of poverty or misrule – Jonathan, PDP

According to PDP, poverty was not a recent phenomenon in the country “and therefore cannot form the basis of the sudden wave of criminal attacks on innocent victims, most of whom live within the poverty bracket.” The party also urged those behind the violent attacks against Nigerians to have a rethink and understand that life was sacrosanct and that nobody has the right to shed innocent blood under any guise.
Chief Metuh said that the PDP was throwing its weight behind President Goodluck Jonathan for his forthrightness on national issues especially the Boko Haram insurgency in his interview with CNN on Wednesday. The PDP also agreed with the President that there has been tremendous improvement in power supply in the country under the current dispensation.

SUV plunges into the Ocean from 3rd Mainland bridge
I got a few
mails from people who said they witnessed the accident and a few others have
sent in photos. They are saying a Toyota Sienna plunged into the UNILAG lagoon
from Third Mainland Bridge this morning. Ilaje fishermen around the area
gathered for a rescue operation and managed to bring one person out alive.

Position Details:
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Providing process engineering support for daily operations in the areas of process engineering and facilities troubleshooting, optimization and debottlenecking oil/gas facilities with an emphasis on the Escravos Gas Plant faculties and operations.
- Participating in PHAs and close out action items or designing modifications to enhance process safety, and acting as a technical Functional Reviewer in the MOC process.
- Supporting operational activities including commissioning of new equipment, providing key input for turnaround activities and to participate as team member for FE projects and provide consultation to Operations and Major Capital Projects in the assigned area.
- Approving PFD, PID and process datasheets and other process documentation.
- Acting as key participant in safety assessment reviews for MOC.
- Directing simulation work and plans, setting up cases for evaluation.
- Directing work on flow assurance and reliability studies.
- Developing process startup procedures, operating instructions and operator training guides for new facilities.
- Acting as a liaison to help solve project issues.
- Developing opportunities with sound basis and business case drivers and work with decision makers/project team members at early phases.
- Providing consultation to Major Capital Projects.
- Supporting commissioning of new equipment and provide key input for turnaround and debottlenecking activities.
- Acting as a key consultant for SAT (Site Acceptance Testing).
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years process engineering experience in the oil & gas industry, preferably in gas compression & processing facility including, treating, compression, heat exchange, LPG storage condensate processing, etc.
- Minimum of 3 years process engineering experience supporting natural gas processing plants.
- Must have strong knowledge of HySIS, PipePhase and other simulations tools.
- Must have strong process engineering background, especially with gas processing facilities.
- Experience with troubleshooting and resolving debottlencking process issues.
- Must have good record of success with process control implementation and support.
- Understands typical gas plant operations, process equipment design selection, and typical process dynamics.
- Skilled at modifying complex/major equipment and facilities for debottlenecking.
- Ability to effectively lead and communicate within a multi-discipline collaborative environment.
- Demonstrates understanding of customer focus.
- Ability to effectively work as member of multi-functional Asset Team in an operating environment.
- Strong mentoring skills and interpersonal communications within a multi-cultural team environment.
- Demonstrated strong commitment to the transfer of knowledge and skills to junior project engineers, process engineers and interns with special attention to nationals, by developing and employing mentoring programs based on the Chevron Way principles, CPDEP mind set, and the use of VIP (Value Improving Practices).
- Demonstrate willingness and aptitude, as well as cultural sensitivity, in diverse work environment.
- Experience in mentoring and training less experienced engineers will be considered a plus.

Independence Day Bombing: Court Sentences Ebiware To Life Imprisonment [Photos]
Following on the heels of Henry Okah’s conviction of 13 counts related to acts of terrorism by a South African court for which he faces life jail term, one of his accomplice, Edmond Ebiware, yesterday, also received his own sentence – life imprisonment.
Ebiware was found guilty by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja for the 2010 Independence Day bombing that killed 12 people and injured several others.
Information Nigeria recalls that Ebiware was arrested on October 2nd in Abuja and was arraigned alongside Henry Okah and his brother Charles Okah.
As Ebiware was being led away after the sentence was pronounced, he put up a fierce struggle with the prison guards.
