Nigerian Student Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Drug Trafficking in Malaysia

A 23 year-old Nigerian student of a private college in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was sentenced to death by hanging after he was found guilty of trafficking in 16,936gm of cannabis two years ago.

As reported by NewStraits Times, the Judicial Commissioner Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt against John Amaechi Eze.
In his judgment, Zaki said the accused claimed he was waiting to board an express bus at a restaurant in front of the Lye Huat Garden hall when he was arrested by police. However, he said the court did not believe his claim that he did not own the luggage when witnesses had testified that he was with the luggage all the time.
His sentencing has elicited a range of reactions and warnings to Nigerians against trafficking drugs in countries where the stated penalty for such an offence is the death sentence.
A Nigerian blogger, Ola, who lives in Malaysia and blogs at www.madameaproko.blogspot.com shared this experience of living in Malaysia after the sentencing and warned against trafficking drugs. It is quite an interesting read:
Now, for anyone harboring thoughts of trafficking drugs to this country, this is what you get. It beats me why someone would risk their life, by taking banned substance to this racist shit hole called Malaysia, because when issued a visa, it is clearly stated that the punishment for drug trafficking in Malaysia is death.

To be fair and honest to Malaysia, there are some very nice and wonderful people out there, but they are greatly outnumbered by the bigots among them. I live and study in Malaysia and I’ve observed a bias pattern in judicial procedures and policing as regards drug trafficking and crime prevention.

My assertions are based on my day to day experience and observation as a resident. I have no statistical analysis of the Nigerian population living in Malaysia neither do I have the exact figures or nationality of the number of cases prosecuted by the Malaysian judiciary.

From the Nigerian side, The easterners (Igbos) out-number other ethnic groups within the Nigerian community here. That’s why most Nigerians you meet are from the east. A lot (of) Nigerians you meet are not in Malaysia to study, though they are enrolled in one college or another, they are semi-illiterates or outright illiterates, very lousy, brash and arrogant (for reasons I don’t understand). Then we have the stranded group who were duped by travel agents into thinking the pasture in Malaysia is greener.

In short, You meet criminals of all shapes, size and age. They just sleep, eat, wake up, and hope the next Maga pays. They are so much, you’ll think all Nigerians living in Malaysia are criminals, but we have bright students doing well and graduating in Malaysian Universities, we have gainfully employed graduates trained by Malaysians themselves (few) and business men and women doing legitimate business exporting goods to and from Nigeria (also few compared to the population of the Nigerian community).

But the Yahoo boys and drug traffickers are so high in number it seems they’ve all relocated from Nigeria to Malaysia. Conditions here favour them.

Basic infrastructure is great here compared to what we have in Nigeria. 24 hours electricity, running water, well laid roads, affordable high speed internet, compact 3/4 bedroom apartment, affordable furniture, little or no scrutiny on international remittance etc. Malaysia is a Yahoo Boy’s paradise.

Though, most foreigners especially new comers call them (Malaysians) lazy and stupid (I still don’t get the rationale behind that).

On the Malaysian side, you’ll meet the Malay Supremacist.

A Muslim, religious bigot, loud, aggressive and assertive. He (male and female) hates Jews and despises Christians. He wants to protect the “sanctity” of Islam, State resources are at his disposal. His opinion and interest supercedes that of others.

His ancestors are the first settlers in Peninsular Malaysia. His interpretation of the Islamic text dictates and guides the Muslim community and some times the whole nation. His favourite question when he meets you for the first time in class or anywhere is “Are you Muslim?”. He runs the country and he knows it.

Then we have the Chinese Chauvinist, a business tycoon/ hard working student. Drives flashy cars, he believes his race is the best. He is rich and he has read stories of Nigerians using Malaysian girls as drug mules, black/chemical money stories; he has meet or read of stranded Nigerians who loiter around Kuala-Lumpur begging for money (these stranded guys don’t shower, so they stink).

He cringes when you happen to be in the same elevator, crosses to the other side of the road when you are walking towards each other and always thinks you need something from him any time you try to talk to him. He has held on to so many Nigerian horrible stories and thinks every Nigerian is like that.

Then, we have the Angry Indian, always pissed and mean-mugging you. He has been discriminated against so much that even his language is not included in the country’s ATM machine (LMAO). He is always trying to pick fights with you and the first comment he makes is “THIS IS MY COUNTRY!”. He’ll smash his crash helmet on you at the slightest provocation or stab you. He also reads of atrocities committed by Nigerians and sees you as a threat.

So, living in Malaysia has made me a racism connoisseur of sought. In fact, I have become so sensitive that I believe I can tell if an individual is racist within a few seconds of being around them. There are people in Malaysia whose sole purpose in life is just to ruin your day. Racism in Malaysia is perfect. It is subtle when it needs to be and brass when necessary.

As a foreigner you might be misled into thinking Malaysia is a boring place and no one gives a damn about you, so you can do what ever you like and get away with it. No, you are seriously mistaken. Malaysia sometimes feels like the North-Korea we watch on T.V. Some citizens are very nosy and they watch and observe every move you make. I read a news article some weeks ago that says about 80% of Police personnel don’t do normal Policing but rather, spy and gather intelligence.

So, my point is this. Malaysia is a tightly controlled society where the authorities decide what business prospers, whether legal or illegal. Elements within the police control the drug trade, the distributors are under their command and they arrest them when it’s politically needed to unite the country against a common enemy. We hear of stories of Iranian and Arab drug traffickers who are quietly deported and warned never to return to Malaysia but other nationalities are shown off as trophy in front of news men who broadcast and publish sensational news headlines.

South-east Asian countries are united against drug trafficking and they hold meetings regularly to discuss new strategies on deterrent, Death (rolls eyes).

So, it baffles me why people still take the risks John Amaechi Eze was sentenced on January 22; a British Grand mother Lindsay Sandiford was also sentenced to death on the same day in Indonesia. In the year 2008, two Nigerians were executed in Indonesia and one in Singapore.

Nigerians, please stop trying to bring drugs into Malaysia.

15,000 crocs escape from South African farm

JOHANNESBURG: Around 15,000 crocodiles have escaped from a farm in South Africa amid heavy rains and flooding, local daily Beeld reported Thursday.

The predators sprung from the Rakwena Crocodile Farm in the far north of the country when owners were forced to open the gates to prevent a storm surge.

A number have since been recaptured, but at least half remain on the loose, scattered far and wide.

One turned up on a school rugby pitch 120 kilometres (75 miles) away.

The surrounding province of Limpopo province has been hit by serious floods which have killed 10 people and made many more homeless.

The floods have also savaged neighbouring Mozambique, were tens of thousands of people were being evacuated from their homes.

Arepo: Gun battle sets off fresh pipeline fire

 

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s pipeline located at Arepo, Ogun State exploded in the early morning of Wednesday.
The explosion occurred barely two weeks after a similar incident in the area caused the death of more than 15 suspected vandals.
The Wednesday inferno was the fourth time since September last year that fire, suspected to be caused by vandals, had occurred in the area.
There was scepticism as regards the cause of Wednesday explosion, but one of our correspondents learnt that it was caused by a gun duel between some suspected vandals and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Assistant Commandant General, NSCDC South-West zone, Mr. Oladapo Jacob, said the incident was surprising to the corps.
He said after the last incident, the corps stationed its men both day and night to check the incessant vandalism of the NNPC pipeline.
Jacob said, “Our men have been here day and night since last December incident. Unfortunately, we were surprised this morning when we heard the people were here about 3.30am.
“About that time, our men heard a gunshot from the pipeline area. They decided to go there to know what was happening.
“By the time our men got there, the vandals engaged our men in a gun duel. They later flee into the water. The immediate result was the fire.”
Jacob said the corps had a lot of security challenges in the area, alleging that some residents were working in connivance with the vandals.
He also said the vandals had evolved a more sophisticated approach to scooping fuel in Arepo, adding that instead of jerrycans, which they usually used, they had introduced “rubbers” to deceive security operatives.
Jacob said, “The vandals have developed another technology to steal fuel from pipeline. Instead of using kegs, they are now using something called rubber. And the rubbers contain about three kegs. By the time you see them on top of the river, you may be thinking they are fishing; they are not.
“There are so many exit points here because it is a creek. They call this place Arepo. There are other exit points at Majidun and Ogolonto. If you chase them at Arepo, they go to the other side and jump into the river,” he said.
He said the panacea for the incessant vandalism was for the Federal Government to build a bridge so that those exit points could be fortified for better surveillance and security.
A resident of the area, Mr. Ngozi Chukwu, said the regular explosion was giving the residents cause for concern.
“The Federal Government knows what to do. It should intensify security here. In a creek area such as this, the government should create a bridge to make petrol stealing difficult.
“It is unfortunate that in the last four months, explosion had taken place in this area four times. To live here now is dangerous.”
Another resident, who identified himself simply as Keke, said, “How will people not scoop fuel to survive? In a situation where there is unemployment, while a few people are feeding fat in Abuja, why won’t you expect such a situation? For most of the vandals, they see the pipelines as a place where their national cake is.”
NNPC officials, NSCDC men clash
Officials of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation and the officers and men of NSCDC on Wednesday clashed at the scene of the pipeline explosion which rocked the Arepo community.
While the fire billowed on Arepo creek, the NNPC officials, who were dispatched to the scene of the fire, engaged the NSCDC officials who wanted to join in the operation in a heated argument for over 40 minutes.
The NNPC had told NSCDC men on ground that only mobile policemen would be allowed to provide them security while they fixed the vandalised pipeline.
The decision irked the NSCDC men who insisted that it was their constitutional duty to investigate issues bearing on vandalism as well as safeguard oil pipelines.
As a result of this, many of the armed NSCDC men and the gun totting mobile policemen exchanged words and abused themselves while the ACG Jacob left the scene.
One of the NNPC officials, who declined to give his name said, “Only mobile policemen seconded to us from the Police Force Headquarters will be allowed to conduct surveillance to check if the explosion site is safe and to provide security. This is not a jamboree; only the policemen would go in there with the boat.”
However, the Zonal Information Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency, South West, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, who led a team to the scene, brokered peace between the warring factions and three officials of NSCDC were allowed to join the boat.
Jacobs later said the scenario was due to confusion usually associated with planning.
Farinloye, however, lamented the incessant fire explosion at the Arepo, adding that the exact spot that was fixed two weeks ago when the creeks went up in flames was still the same point that was vandalised.
He said, “It is unfortunate that between September2012 and now, we have witnessed four fire incidents at the Arepo end of the NNPC Right of Way. We thank God there was no casualty and we only have three points of fire on the creek.
“To put an end to these incessant incidents, the community members must give us enough cooperation. The traditional rulers must mobilise against vanadalism in this area.”

Nigerian Rapper Don Saint is out with a new book "Emancipation From Masturbation'. Don Saint is the second Nigerian Hip Hop Artiste after Naeto C to obtain a Master’s Degree in Religion and Human Relations from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka on the 17th Sept.2012. He was also the former Events Manager at Sliverbird’s Rhythm Fm Awka Station before he went back to school for his Masters Degree .

The C.E.O of So-Plain Entertainment /Naija Music Movement said his passion to help the youths overcome masturbation kept him awake for researches on the issue.

Don Saint says:

Man stabs ex-girl friend to death for dumping him

The Aleato family has been thrown into sorrow following the murder of their 26-year-old daughter, Onyinyechukwu, last Saturday by her ex-boyfriend in Lagos.

The deceased, a sales girl at Alaba International market, Ojo, was reportedly trailed by her ex-boyfriend, Osita Amanunwa from her Iba new site abode, to Ajangbadi area of Lagos, where she had gone to visit a friend.

Crime Alert gathered that the late Onyin, as she was fondly called, sat outside her host’s compound, exchanging banters, without the slightest inkling that death lurked at the corner.

Eye witnesses said she turned and suddenly, the smile on her face disappeared. And  when her  host turned to the direction of her gaze, they discovered  that her ex stood  opposite them.
Her host  who spoke on condition of anonymity, told crime Alert that: “ she greeted him but he hissed and walked away. He later came back and beckoned on her to come. She excused herself and left…”.

Singular response

He paused at this juncture,quivering with fear. That singular response happened to be Onyin’s greatest undoing because unknown to her,  Osita had a sinister motive up his sleeves.
This was confirmed moments later, following a desperate  shout for help from the isolated meeting point at number 4/5 Abike Ogunlana close, at about 9pm.  At first, no one suspected it could be Onyin.
 
But after waiting for a while, her host decided to check on her, only to see Onyin in the pool of her own blood with a knife still thrust in her neck. From all indication, it was obvious that she tried to put up a struggle  in order to free herself from the assailant’s grip.

She was also discovered to have managed to crawl from the isolated spot to an open area. But her strength apparently failed her midway, owing to   much loss of blood. Unable to crawl further, she  stopped,  clutching firmly to the earth as if rescue  would spring out of it. Osita on the other hand, was nowhere to be found.

Cause of break-up
Crime Alert  gathered that before the incident, Osita, a trader at Alaba International market, had on several occasions, threatened to leave an indelible mark on Onyin for dumping him for another man. Investigation revealed that the duo had a romantic relationship that lasted  for six years, a relationship that was to lead to marriage until Osita allegedly raped Onyin’s younger sister.


Family sources told Crime Alert that Oyin’s younger sister(names withheld) was sent to deliver a parcel to Osita at his 80 Isiaka street, Iba new site  two years ago. However, on reaching his apartment  he allegedly raped the teenager who was barely 15 years-old.
It was gathered that the teenager never told anyone about the deed, until she was discovered to be pregnant. She gave birth about a year ago.

Without further warning or advice,  Onyinyechukwu, stopped seeing Osita. But her action as gathered, signaled the danger that eventually led to her sudden death, following threat from Osita.
Perhaps, had she listened to her parents, this tragedy might not have befallen her. It was gathered  that right from the onset, Onyin’s parents kicked against her relationship with 36-year-old Osita who hails from Akere village in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra state.

Her devastated father, Mr Aleato, offered an explanation to the family’s stance: “ My daughter came back home one fateful day with razor  marks all over her body and when I asked what happened, she told me that she fell down. But we were later  informed by a friend of hers that her  boyfriend, Osita, inflicted the marks on her. I warned her  severally to abstain from Osita and every other man who would go to the extent of inflicting such injury on her; men who would not respect her as a woman…”

It was also gathered that Osita had on several occasions beat Onyin publicly, for calling off the relationship , only to start off with another man, boasting that if he could not have her, nobody else would.

Police on the trail of the  assailant
Since the tragic incident, Osita’s whereabouts is unknown. Policemen at Ilemba Hausa  were however,  said to be on his trail. When Crime Alert visited his apartment at Iba new site, it was discovered that Osita had a wife already. Sources hinted that he rushed home that fateful night and informed some of his friends around the area about what he had done and thereafter, picked some of his clothes before disappearing into thin air. Out of fear, his close friends were also discovered to have fled, apparently to avoid being arrested by the Police.

The case, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) where operatives at the Homicide section have reportedly began investigation.

BREAKING NEWS: Maiduguri Boils Again: 5 People Slaughtered, 7 Shot To Death, 13 Arrested

No fewer than 12 persons were killed and a school completely burned down in the renewed violence that shook Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

The mayhem happened in three separate areas of the state when gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram slaughtered five people in Jiddari Polo, gunned down four others in London Ciki area and also killed yet another person at Baga Road area of the state.
The JTF in a statement claimed to have killed two of the suspected Boko Haram terrorists and arrested 13 others in Polo and Shehuri ward following the violence and explosion that rocked the state capital at the eve of Eid-El- Maulud celebration.
Our correspondent gathered that at about 10:00 pm on Tuesday, gunmen in large number attacked some houses at Polo Jiddari ward in Maiduguri where they slaughtered five people. It was also learnt that another set of the attackers gun down four people in London ciki area and one person at Baga road at about 5:00 pm.
A resident of Federal low cost housing estate, who did not want his name in print, told newsmen that, three golf cars and three Keke Napep belonging to the gunmen who abandon their ride and run into some houses in Jajeri ward were burnt down by soldiers who pursued the gunmen and also shelled the houses where they took cover.
“Nobody knows the number of gunmen or the people killed in the raid at the residence where the gunmen took cover but we believe many people perhaps innocent ones inclusive might have been trapped in the houses while JTF was shelling the house. Many, we believed, have died,” he asserted.
However, when the Joint task Force on Operation Restore Order in Borno state sent in their release confirming the incident, the statement reads: “Information available to the Joint Task Force Operation RESTORE ORDER indicated that some suspected gunmen killed three people at about 3.am today Wednesday, 23 January, 2013 in Jiddari – Pulo, Maiduguri metropolis. The JTF was alerted; it cordoned off the area, arrested three suspects and recovered one assault rifle with ten rounds of ammunition. Two gunmen lost their lives and a soldier was wounded during an exchange of fire. The suspects are in JTF custody and effort is on to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.”
A relation of two of the victims slaughtered in Jiddari Polo, Hajiya Uwani Shuiabu told newsmen that, she received a call from one of the deceased’s wife at about 10:00 pm on Tuesday that, “they came and they have killed your brothers.”
According to her, they died a brutal death because their heads were cut off. She also called on government and security agencies to come to the aid of unarmed residents and beam their search light particularly in Jiddari Polo where it is believed that a lot of gunmen have relocated and are killing innocent people.
In another development gunmen attacked Binta Sugar area of Maiduguri and burnt down Gomari II Primary School in the area at about 7:00 pm on Tuesday evening.
Also at about 11:00 am violence erupted at Shehuri Ward of Maiduguri metropolitan following a bomb blast, which was believed to have been planted by suspected members of Boko Haram.
While confirming the incident, spokesman of the JTF, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa said, “Information available to JTF Operation Restore Order revealed that there was an IED explosion at about 12:00 Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in Shehuri ward of Maiduguri Metropolitan. The JTF rushed to the scene, cordon and search the area and arrested 10 suspects. Operation is ongoing, the suspects are in JTF custody undergoing interrogation, no life was lost and nobody was injured.”

NNPC Mega Station Shut down for ‘Under-dispensing’ Petrol at the Pump

The Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment has sealed off dispensing pumps of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Mega station, Gwarinpa, and at least two other stations in the area for under-dispensing petroleum products to customers.
This was discovered during the inspection of petrol stations by the Weights and Measures Department of the ministry, led by its Director, Alhaji Bashir Zoro, in Abuja.
During the inspection at the AYM, Shafa petrol station at Gundu district, it was discovered that the dispensing pumps at the station short-changed 0.8 litres for every 20 litres of PMS (19.2 as 20 litres) and on diesel, 0.95 litres less for every 20 litres (19.05 as 20 litres). At the M. Major Oil and Gas, Mborra, products were sold at 1.6 litres for every 20 litres (18.4 as 20 litres).
Also, at the NNPC mega station, Gwarinpa, the officials of the station refused to switch on their dispensing pumps on the excuses of power supply and faulty generators, and when the waiting game continued for a while, the director ordered the sealing off of the dispensing pumps at the station.
Director, Weights and Measures, Alhaji Bashir Zoro, while addressing journalists at the NNPC mega station, said it was extremely disappointing that motorists were being short-changed at the petrol stations, and that the department would continue to inspect occasionally in order to establish and maintain conformity with standards.

Police Arrest 21-year-old Man Over Alleged Molestation Of Deaf And Dumb

21-year-old Shina Amusa was yesterday paraded by the Osun State Police Command for allegedly molesting an 18-year-old deaf and dumb.
The Command stated in Osogbo, the Osun state capital that already the suspect had been subjected to thorough and systematic investigations by detectives attached to Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters, Osogbo.
The Investigating Police Officer in charge of the case while giving details of the crime said the suspect overpowered and forced the hapless deaf and dumb girl inside his room before allegedly defiling her.
“The case which was reported to the station by the father of the victim, Yisa Adebayo has been taken with every seriousness as the Divisional Police Officer, (DPO) CSP Rauf Razak is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the suspect faces the full consequence of his offence,” the IPO said.
Meanwhile, in a medical check-up conducted by Ladoke Akintola Teaching University Hospital, (LAUTECH), Osogbo, it was confirmed that there was penetration into the victim.

18 Floating Bodies Evacuated From Ezu River In Anambra As Autopsy Begins

Eighteen decomposed bodies evacuated from Ezu River on the border town of Amansea, between Enugu and Anambra states, will today be subjected to autopsy to be jointly carried out by Anambra and Enugu State governments and their police commands.
Addressing Anambra Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, and other senior police officers in the state yesterday, State police commissioner, Mr. Bala Nassarawa, gave the figure as he confirmed that all the dead bodies were males, adding that three bodies had been selected for the autopsy because the other 15 had become too bad.
“We have also discovered that there were no gun injuries or machete cuts on their bodies as being speculated and the dead bodies were not up to 30 or 50 as rumoured,” Nassarawa said.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in charge of medicals, the state Commissioner for Health and pathologists from the two states would be involved in carrying out the autopsy.
Nassarawa assured the public that the police would provide additional information on the matter at the rights time as investigations were still continuing on the matter.

shocking:50 Bodies Found Floating On Anambra River

Bodies floating on the Amansea River that empties into Anambra River from Agba Ogwudu River in Enugu State yesterday left the people of Amansea and their neighbours in Awka, the Anambra State capital shocked, as people from the communities went to fetch water from the river.
It was learnt that after counting up to 50 bodies, the bewildered villagers alerted their traditional ruler, Igwe Kenneth Okonkwo, who mobilized his cabinet for an emergency meeting after which the state government and the state police command were contacted.
The stench from the decomposing bodies could be picked from about one kilometre from the river and the development attracted many people to the area.
Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, who was away from the state on official assignment, was immediately contacted and he directed members of the state executive council to move to the spot with a view to finding out the true situation of things.
Most of the state commissioners and local government chairmen from some local government areas, as well as other top government officials, who were at the scene posed questions to the communities’ leaders to find out if anybody was missing in their areas. The indigenes so far said no one was missing in their communities.
The state commissioner for local government, Mrs Azuka Enemuo, who led the government delegation to the area, described the development as terrible.
“Since our arrival, we have counted about 14 dead bodies floating on this river and we may not have seen the last. We were duly informed by the security agencies and we believe they will carry out investigations to tell us actually what transpired.
“We have already contacted our neighbouring Enugu State government to find out if the bodies came from that state. The state government must get to the root of this matter,” Enemuo said.
Speaking on the incident, Igwe Kenneth Okonkwo said, apart from the mystery posed by the floating bodies, the worry of his people was that their main source of water supply may have been polluted.
He said the river is the only source of water for the five communities of Amansea, Ebenebe, Ugbenu, Ugbene and Oba-Ofemili and the development had caused a lot of discomfort to his people.
The Enugu State Police Commissioner, Mr Musa Daura, has assured the people of the communities affected and the state government that his command would probe the mystery surrounding the bodies, while he added when visiting the scene yesterday, that he would join hands with his Anambra State counterpart to investigate the source of the corpses.
According to him, the avalanche of dead bodies remained a mystery because he had not heard of any communal clash whether in Enugu or Anambra where many people were killed.
