Mulago reconstructs man's penis chopped By His Wife

Mulago reconstructs man's chopped penis
KAMPALA - A 28-year-old man whose penis was chopped off by his estranged wife has undergone reconstructive surgery at Mulago Hospital in Kampala.

Speaking from his hospital bed at the health facility, Abdul Ibinga said he has undergone a second operation and is due for another surgery.

Expressing cautious optimism however, Dr Charles Kasozi, one of the specialists attending to Ibinga, said the overall success of the surgery will depend on the degree of the damage.

Ibinga's penis was chopped off late last year by his estranged wife Madinah Namuwaya while he was asleep in their marital bed at their home in Irungu village in Kamuli district.

'I want to live normal life'

According to him, on the fateful day when he returned home after work, Namuwaya with whom they have three children warmly welcomed him and served him supper immediately.

"After eating the food I started feeling drowsy and went to our bedroom," Ibinga said.

Ibinga, who is being attended to by his second wife Lydia Tibinto said he was awakened from sleep by a sharp pain in his genitals at midnight.

"I then noticed blood oozing from my penis which was hanging by a skin. The blood had also splashed on my children. I called my wife, but she was no where to be seen. That is when I made an alarm and neighbours came to my rescue."

Ibinga said he is still young and wanted to live a normal life of a married person. He said he had wanted to father at least seven children, but that dream may have been cut short.

A peasant farmer, he said his first wife of eight years may have been upset over his decision to marry a second wife.

"She was lazy and whenever I asked her to go and till the land, she would give excuses, so I decided to get a second wife who could dig," he said.

Meanwhile, Namuwanya was remanded to Kamuli prison in November last year
