Samuel Eto’O in Retirement U-Turn.

Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, has reversed his decision to retire from international football, pledging Tuesday to join up with Cameroon for next week’s 2014 World Cup Africa Zone play-off in Tunisia.
Last month the record four-time winner of the African Footballer of the Year award told his Cameroon teammates he was quitting the national team. His u-turn will be welcome news to the ‘Indomitable Lions’ who face Tunisia in Rades on October 13 followed by the return leg in Yaounde on November 17.
“You can have all the problems in the world but you have to see out your mission,” the 32-year-old told Cameroon state radio.
“And this time it’s to join my teammates in Tunisia and return with a good result.” According to a report carried by AFP, Eto’o will link up with the national squad in the French Cote d’Azur resort of Nice on Wednesday to prepare for the match.

Eto’o made his debut for Cameroon, who are out to secure their seventh participation at a World Cup finals, in 1997.
He has regularly disagreed with Cameroon coaches and his initial retirement may have been linked to the selections of present incumbent Volker Finke.
The German reportedly ignored calls from Eto’o to start with goalkeeper Carlos Kameni and striker Achille Webo against the Libyans in their final group qualifying match — Eto’o still played and from his corner they scored the only goal of the game to progress to the play-offs.
Shortly after that Eto’o announced he was retiring from international football. Eto’o , a member of the Cameroon side who won Olympic gold in 2000 was banned from the ‘Indomitable Lions’ last year after inciting a bonus-related boycott of a friendly in Algeria.
Recalled for a Cup of Nations qualifier against Cape Verde, he could not prevent Cameroon missing the 2013 finals in South Africa. Born in Atlantic city Douala, he played for Real Madrid, Mallorca, Barcelona and Inter Milan before joining big-spending Anzhi, moving to Chelsea in the close season.

5 Superfoods You Probably Aren’t Eating!!!

grapefruit-slicedSometimes we get caught up in the routine of eating the same foods over and over again. Often times it’s not that healthful eating isn’t tasty, but rather it’s the lack of variety. Adding a variety of super nutrient dense foods to our diet ensures that we’re getting the laundry list of vitamins and minerals that the body needs to thrive.
1. Spirulina
Spirulina is a blue green algae that’s a wonderful food especially for those that avoid meat products. Though this is certainly true of everyone, a deficiency in B12 is more common in vegans and some vegetarians because B12 is found in animal products. If you’re feeling really tired and rundown, you might not be getting enough. There is no whole food source of B12 for vegans, except for spirulina. What’s more, spirulina has iron. A deficiency of iron, also called anemia, is a very common ailment in our population. Add spirulina to shakes and smoothies by the spoonful.
2. Ghee
If you’re unfamiliar with ghee, it’s clarified butter often used in Indian cooking. Ghee is made by simmering unsalted butter in a pot until all water has boiled off, the milk solids have settled to the bottom, and the “junk” has floated to the top. According to Dr. Vasant Lad, director of the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, N.M., traditionally, ghee has been used to promote memory, intelligence, and digestion. Modern science tells us that ghee bolsters the immune system as well.
3. Grapefruits
Ok, you may still be eating these, but for me these are really 1987. I grew up eating them plain with a teaspoon of sugar and then until recently completely forgot they existed. They were all the rage during the 1980s low fat craze and they may be one of my favorite foods to come out of that era. Grapefruits contain monoterpenes which sweep the body of carcinogens. They also contain vitamin C and folic acid. Try this Mixed Citrus Salad.
4. Jerusalem Artichokes
When we’re depleted of iron it often leads to a feeling of fatigue. Fight against anemia by dosing up on iron-rich foods
5. Adzuki Beans
They’re smaller than black beans and reddish brown in color but loaded with nutrients. In fact, these little guys contain some of the highest levels of protein and lowest levels of fat of any variety of beans. They also contain high levels of potassium, fiber, B vitamins, iron, zinc, and manganese. Adzuki beans promote regular bowel movements, are a good source of energy, and help lower cholesterol.

The Nigeria National Stroke Prevention Programme, to forestall the alarming rate of sudden deaths in the country has been launched in Abuja by President Goodluck Jonathan.
During the launch at the fore-court of the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, the president and the Vice-President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, underwent series of medical check-ups in a mobile ambulance.
The ceremony, which was conducted mid-way into the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, was witnessed by ministers, presidential aides and other workers in the Presidential Villa.
Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, who briefed State House correspondents after the meeting, said the programme was approved by the president as an antidote to the sudden death syndrome.
He said government was worried about the alarming rate of sudden death of Nigerians, particularly at their prime, and therefore evolved the programme to encourage people to check up their health status regularly for preventive measures.
“The health awareness programme is to help Nigerians to check up on their health on regular basis to take fitness seriously and take close attention to their lifestyles.
“Apart from in-born pre-conditions, the main causes of stroke and heart-attack are things that can be prevented like hypertension, diabetes, lack of exercise, excessive consumption of alcohol and smoking and so on”.
He said the need to act on a national scale prompted Jonathan and Namadi to demonstrate leadership by example by going undergoing the medical tests.
“They were seen by consultant doctors, who carried out some tests on them, such as body mass index, measurement of height and weight, blood pressure.
“The president approved of the programme to be managed by the Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with federal teaching hospitals and other hospitals in Nigeria as well as the Nigeria in Diaspora to execute the programme,’’ the Health Minister said.
Chukwu said the cost of the test was N50,000 but the government had subsidised it and reduced the cost to N10,000, particularly, for indigent Nigerians (NAN).

A university graduate and two other suspects were on Wednesday paraded by the Lagos State Police Command, following their arrest, by a tip off from a seven-year-old victim.

The graduate of Economics of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Gbenga Sholaja; Olalekan Benjamin and Samson Shomorin, who specialise in kidnapping little boys, were arrested by men of the Igando Police Division and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos.
The victim (name withheld) was said to have been held hostage at Benjamin’s father’s house at Ikotun, Lagos.
The child, who was later released after ransom was paid by his parents, was said to have memorised the house address where he was kept. It was the child who led police officers to the same house where Benjamin was arrested.
Sholaja, who wept profusely during his interview, said that he was pushed by unemployment into kidnapping. He said, “I have a Second Class Upper (Division) in Accounting and have completed my National Youth Service Corps programme.
“I went into kidnapping because since I finished my NYSC in 2011, I have been unable to get a job.”
An ex-convict, who was remanded in prison for kidnapping three years ago, Benjamin, said he met Sholaja at OOU while he was trying to gain admission into the school.
He said, “I was a casual worker at a factory in 2007 before I was sacked; I earned N300 per day. After staying idle for some months, I met a friend, Muyiwa, we were carriers of frozen fish at Apapa. He introduced me to Taofeeq.
“One day, Taofeeq brought a small boy to my house and asked me to take care of him. He claimed that the boy was his younger brother; he was about seven years old. The boy stayed in my house with my family and was well taken care of for four days. Taofeeq even sent money for his upkeep.
“When Taofeeq went to collect N150, 000 ransom, he was arrested by SARS and he led them to my house. We were charged and sent to prison in November 2009. In September 2010, we were released because the complainant refused to show up in court.”
Benajmin and his wife, upon his release, then moved to his father’s house at Ikotun area of the state. In 2010, he was said to have met Sholaja in OOU, where he went to write the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The 30-year-old claimed that Sholaja invited him to take part in another kidnapping; he said Sholaja had read about Benjamin’s arrest in the newspapers.
Benjamin said, “We would kidnap one boy and we would keep the boy in his (Sholaja’) mother’s house at Owode Ijako.
“After a week, the boy’s parents paid the money. We were given N100,000 and my share was just N40,000.”
Describing their modus operandi, Benajmin said they usually kidnapped children while on their way to or from school. All suspects were said to have collected a total of N260,000 on two separate occasions, to secure the release of two boys.
Benjamin said that he befriended potential victims by buying them biscuits on their way to school, thereby earning their trust.
He said, “It was the last kidnap that got us into trouble. I drove away not knowing that the boy memorised my father’s house address, where he was kept.
“After he was released, he led policemen to the house and I was arrested along with my dad but my dad was later released on bail.”
Shomorin, on his part, confessed to kidnapping three boys. He urged the government to pardon them, promising not to go back to crime.
Lagos Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Damasus Ozoani, said the suspects were arrested on September 29, 2013.
Ozoani said, “They confessed to have kidnapped three children -one from Omole Phase 1; one Kola at Alagbado area and the last one in Owode Ijako, Ogun State, and various amounts of money were collected as ransom.”
