Davido Is Underrated–Tonto Dikeh

When in late 2011, Davido made a brief show of his music talent, some might have thought that he would just come, briefly reign, and go underground as it has happened to several Nigerian artistes.
But two years almost gone, the ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ crooner is still waxing stronger by the day. He is one of the top artistes in Nigeria.
According to Nollywood ‘bad girl’ actress, Tonto Dikeh, Davido is underrated. She bore her mind on Davido in a tweet on her twitter page today.
“I think Davido is fantastic and underrated,” the Ikwere, Rivers State-born actress posted.
Tonto, who has also tried her luck in music, just like her other colleagues, has not had a fair share of commendations from fans. She was lambasted for going into music, which many people believe the actress does not have what it takes to be a musician.

Deaths As Cultists Invade mushin in lagos

No fewer than three people were killed while others were injured on Thursday and Friday after suspected cult members invaded Mushin, Lagos State, and unleashed mayhem on the residents.
photoOur correspondent, who visited the area on Sunday, reported gun battle between some youths and policemen along Ayetoro Railway Line, while vehicles parked by St Paul’s Anglican Church were vandalised.
It was learnt that the Friday killing was as a result of a long-standing feud between some youths in Fadeyi area on one hand and Mushin on the other.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, who were said to have come from Ereko Street, Fadeyi, were about 20 in number.
An eyewitness, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said the assailants attacked the area about three times between Thursday and Friday.
He said the first attack took place at a naming ceremony organised by a Keke NAPEP chairman in the area simply known as Gaddafi.
He said, “The man known as Gaddafi had a little party on Alhaji Ota Street to mark his child’s naming ceremony and we were also watching a football match. When it was about 9.30pm, we started hearing gunshots.
“We saw about four guys, some of whom we know as Lanre Pumping and Monsuru 50 cent, wielding pump-action rifles and were shooting at us. In the process, one of our friends, Kazeem, was shot in the private part while another guy was shot in the head while a man, identified as Yinka was shot in the back. We all ran for cover until the shooting stopped.”
The eyewitness said after two hours, the assailants returned and killed two people in the area, adding that over five others were hit by stray bullets.
He said, “At about 12.30am, some guys in a red Toyota Camry, started shooting around Alhaji Ota Bus Stop, along Agege Motor Road. Most of the people who were hit were commercial bus drivers who had just closed for the day.
“As people were running to avoid being hit, about four other guys from nowhere brought out AK-47 rifles and started shooting at those running away. One bus conductor, who was standing nearby was pinned to the ground and shot repeatedly until he died.”
It was learnt that policemen, led by the Area D Commander, Omololu Bishi, arrived the area but the hoodlums had escaped.
It was learnt that angry youths held unto the corpses and refused to allow the police to take them away.
An eyewitness, Ayotunde Adegbokun, said the area commander was able to appeal to the residents to release the corpses which were later deposited at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Mortuary.
“The area commander appealed to us and we later released the corpses. He rushed about five victims to Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, where he also deposited about N120,000 for the treatment of the victims,” he said.
A man, who identified himself as the guardian of one of the surviving victims, Matthew Idowu, said Idowu was shot over 12 times.
He said, “He (Idowu) is my nephew and he is a bus driver. His mother died last month. We had just buried his mother when we heard that he was shot after closing from work. He had a surgical operation and seven bullets have been extracted from his body, including his head.
“We are transferring him to Osun State where he will receive further treatment.”
Meanwhile, residents have urged the state police command to beef up security as violence had resurfaced in the area.
A landlord on Alhaji Lasisi Street, Adeshina Adegbaike, told PUNCH Metro that the violence started after the police withdrew their men from the area.
He said, “We are calling on the commissioner of police to return the armoured tanks which were stationed here before. These hoodlums are the same ones that were disturbing us last year.”
As of the time our correspondent left the area around 4.30pm on Sunday, the gun battle between youths from Ereko and policemen along Ayetoro Railway Line was still on.
Several youths also sustained injuries in Somolu area of the state on Saturday after hoodlums clashed at a naming ceremony in Akanni Street.
A resident, Olaolu Famous, said it took the intervention of men of the Rapid Response Squad to restore normalcy to the area.
“We called on Alade Police Division but they did not respond. It was after we called the 767 that RRS men came to our aid,” he said.
When contacted on the telephone, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the violence in Mushin, but she said only one person was killed.
She said, “Arrest have been made and police have beefed up security in the area.”

Confession Of A 12-Year-Old Robber In Ogun: I Prefer Being With My Gang To Staying At Home

Seyi Olatunji cannot give his exact age. At a time he would say he was 12 years old; at another time, he would call himself a 15-year-old. It was evident that he had had no formal education since he was born. This he confirmed.

But one thing that he could talk on without mincing words was his foray into the crime world as a young boy and how he had enjoyed his gang’s escapades until his arrest.
The Ogun State Police Command arrested the kid suspect recently at Ifo two months after law enforcement agents had been on the trail of his gang which had been terrorising the residents of Orile-Ifo community. Seyi’s gang’s last operation reportedly took place at Orile Ifo on February 4. Other suspected gang members mentioned by Seyi but who are still on the run include Samson, Kunle, Azeez a.k.a. Ogede and Ganiyu Adekunle a.k.a. Igi Ewedu. Adekunle was said to have brought others who joined the gang for robbery but did not follow them for the operation.
After his arrest, Crime Reports learnt that the suspect had been transferred to the Anti-Robbery section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta for further investigation.
In an interview with Crime Reports, Olatunji disclosed that he was being adequately taken care of by his mother, stepfather and biological father but was always drawn to the streets by his friends, whose company he enjoyed. He stated further that his stepfather, who is a bricklayer, also encouraged him to learn bricklaying as a vocation but he did not just have the patience to remain at the job.
According to him,  “my parents are separated and my mother has remarried. She lives at Itori while father lives at Ifo in Ogun State. I sometimes lived with my stepfather but I also stayed with my father at Ifo. I also used to stay outside my parents’ homes because I prefer to be with my friends.
“They (my friends) used to invite me to robbery operations. My role was ususally to be on the watchout so that I would alert others in case of any danger. I am member of the community so I know all the nooks and the crannies. We used to go houses and shops at Ifo communities late in the night. We used to go with two guns usually held by Samson and Kunle. Both of them are currently on the run. We are usually about six that usually go for the operation. I am the youngest of them all. I have been with them for quite some time but I can’t recollect the exact duration.
“I have been on operation with the gang three times and I was given N2,000 each time. The first one was when they went to Alhaja and collected a plastic containing cash she made from sales on the fateful day, her phone and bag. Initially, she did not want to release the plastic, so they struggled with her.
As she was shouting, someone came and tried to rescue her. So one of the gang members shot him in the leg. The following day, Alhaja cried to my father’s house that she was robbed the previous night. But I pretended as if I didn’t know anything. Another time, we went to one woman who rears and sells chickens. The third time, we did not meet our target, because she closed from her shop early on that day.”
On how he was arrested, Olatunji said it was a nightguards who apprehended him where he slept. “I confessed to them that I was involved in robbery with my friends but they could not get others, because I did not know their residences. We used to meet at Igunnuko arena at Ifo on Fridays,”he said.
However, the police image maker in Ogun State, Muyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that the suspect would be charged to the approriate court with consideration for his age.
