Oldest Living Identical Twins Turn 103

Charlotte Eisgrou and Ann Primack
Charlotte Eisgrou and Ann Primack
They’ve lived 103 years and for twins Charlotte Eisgrou and Ann Primack, life is beautiful! The sisters recently celebrated their born day in Florida, and are still at the best of health despite the number of candles on their cake.
“I feel wonderful. I have all my faculties,” Eisgrou told the Daytona Beach News-Journal. Though not together for birthday celebration, they still remain the best of pals since being born in Chi-town and wrapped up in blankets, placed on top of the stove in 1909 pre-incubators, the Daily Mail reports.
Still, they find their age a shocker. “I can’t believe it, that I’ve reached that age. The good thing is our minds are sharp. That’s the only good thing,” Primack told ABC News.
Amazingly, the two golden girls continue to live almost independently. Eisgrou started driving at 78 and didn’t stop till four years ago while Primack survived ovarian cancer years ago. They also have their sense of humour intact, recalling how they would often swap husbands upon visits to one another. “I used to visit Daytona and we’d switch husbands and walk in the temple,” Primack said, “And they’d say to me, ‘Charlotte, you look so good.’”
“Nobody ever knew the difference. And by the time they found out, they were hysterical,” Eisgrou told ABC. “We had so much fun.” [HP

Why Fuel Subsidy Is Not Working – FG

NGOZI OKONJO IWEALA & DIEZANI ALISON MADUEKE

The Federal Government on Monday said payment of subsidy on local consumption of petroleum products was not working because it was subject to abuses.
“The system (fuel subsidy) will not work because there is so much room for abuse. Where ever you go outside Lagos and Abuja, fuel is hardly sold for N97 per litre. Civil society organizations are not speaking against this. They only attack the government. Government cannot be at all filling stations,” Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, said in Abuja.
The declaration by the minister came barely hours after media reports of a suit in which a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State, Chief Stanley Okeke, asked a Federal High Court to compel President Goodluck to totally remove subsidy on fuel.
Mr. Maku, who spoke while briefing the media on the achievements of the Federal Government for 2012, lamented the unavailability of premium motor spirit at the control price of N97 per litre outside Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory.
The minister called on civil society organizations to rise up against the exploitation of Nigerians by dealers in petroleum products, arguing that the government could not be at every filling station across the country.
He also urged Nigerians to ask questions on why they cannot buy fuel at the control price.
However, despite the abuses in the system, Maku reiterated government’s continuation of the subsidy regime because it was the wish of the people.
He said, “Government has paid subsidy for every litre of fuel sold in this country but dealers are selling above the regulated price. We have not deregulated fuel pump prices. For every price above N97 per litre, Nigerians are paying twice.
“People are profiteering from the system and it is wrong. Nigerians should have mercy on Nigerians. We are retaining the subsidy because that is what people want now.”

61-Year-Old Grandmother Rises From The Dead For The Third Time

A grandmother has been brought back from the dead twice – and has even survived spending three days in a morgue.
grandead[1]
The 61-year-old Russian woman has been declared dead twice by doctors, but each time has come back to life – and once was minutes away from being cut open for her autopsy. Hardy Lyudmila Steblitskaya spent 3 days laying in a freezing cold morgue, while her family mourned the retired cook.
Lyudmila Steblitskaya, her daughter Anastasia, and granddaughter Nelli, all had a horrific shock. The mother’s eery habit of returning to life has not only left her family torn between grief and hope that she may come back to life, but perplexed doctors too, The Siberian Times reported.
She has scared both doctors, friends and family once in November last year and in October this year. The initial confusion began last year, when Lyudmila was taken to Tomsk Regional Clinical Hospital and spent days in hospital because she felt unwell.
When her 29-year-old daughter Anastasia, who has a daughter Nelli, nine, called on a Friday evening to ask about her mother’s condition, she was informed by doctors that her mother had died. The devastated woman began planning her mother’s funeral and breaking the bad news to friends and family.
She spent 60,000 roubles (£1,223) buying flowers, a casket, arranging for a grave to be dug, and buying food for the mourners who planned to attend the funeral on the Monday morning, according to the newspaper.
On the Monday, she went to the hospital to collect her mother’s body – only to be told to wait as doctors had not performed an autopsy. She told the newspaper that a startled doctor then approached her and said that her mother was not dead, but was in her bed breathing and alive. Anastasia started arranging the funeral of her mother after being told by doctors that she was dead Anastasia could not believe it when doctors halted an autopsy and discovered her mother was alive.
A disbelieving Anastasia went in to the room to find her mother calling her name, and screamed and dropped her bag.
“My head was so fuzzy that I didn’t even think about getting back into the room, and hugging mum. Or asking her about what happened. Instead I started calling everyone, saying things like ‘Er, sorry. Can you please stop digging the grave. Ah, is it done? OK… well, there won’t be a funeral, my mother is alive’,” she said.
Her mother cannot remember what happened, only that she was in hospital on the Friday and then woke up in a morgue on Monday to discover that her skin was peeling off from the cold. Mostly, she is just grateful to be alive and be able to see her friends and family.
In October 2012, Lyudmila – who has a history of heart problems – had another ‘apparent death’ during a hospital stay but this time doctors brought her back to life after several hours.
On the morgue incident, chief doctor of Tomsk Regional Clinical Hospital Maksim Zayukov, said: “As of now I cannot explain why this mistake happened. This sad procedure has always worked in our hospital like clockwork: the moment of death is always registered by the intensive care doctor. Proper checks are always conducted. This all happens before the family are informed about the death.”
A hospital spokeswoman said: “The checks were carried out and she was dead – or so it seemed. The papers could not have been signed unless this is what the doctors establish. We are still trying to understand what went wrong in Lyudmila’s case”.
Ms Steblitskaya is not the only person to be given a second chance at life.
Earlier this year, mourners in Egypt cheered when the ‘dead’ body they were burying woke up. Hamdi Hafez al-Nubi, a 28-year-old waiter, had been declared dead after suffering a heart attack at work.
His body was being prepared for burial when another doctor, sent to sign his death certificate, discovered he was still warm and managed to revive him. And in April a 95-year-old Chinese woman climbed out of her own coffin six days after she was declared dead following a fall.
Under Chinese tradition, Li Xiufeng was placed in a coffin kept in her house so friends and relatives could pay their respects. But the day before the funeral, neighbours found an empty coffin and later discovered her in the kitchen cooking.

Trucks-at-apapa
The First Gate bus stop, Tin Can Island Port, Lagos yesterday witnessed a gory scene when a lady simply identified as Esther was crushed to death by a truck.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when some policemen stopped a commuter bus driver and created a traffic jam while trying to extort money from the driver.
The incoming truck it was learnt ran over the deceased who was identified as a staff of North Atlantic Agency, Tin Can Island, Apapa.
The lady reportedly died on the spot while the policemen who allegedly caused the incident that led to the accident fled the scene immediately.
Policemen from Tin Can Island Division arrived at the area minutes later to carry the corpse of the Edo State-born lady.
An angry mob attempted to attack the policemen who shot severally in the air to disperse the crowd, and successfully removed the corpse.
The driver of the truck that crushed the lady reportedly fled the scene before he could be apprehended by the angry crowd.

Man Dies On Christmas Day, Wife Throws Party A Few Hours Later

In an extraordinary incident, a Mahatshula woman in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe hosted a party after the death of her husband.
According to sources, the party was held on Christmas Day just a few hours after the woman’s husband died. The woman, Nomasonto Zikhali is said to have lost her husband, Khumbulani Ncube, who died on Christmas day.
Zikhali reportedly invited her friends and relatives to join her in the party. Reports say Ncube’s relatives boycotted the party as they condemned the move with all the contempt it deserved.
“Surely, how can someone do such a thing? She should be taken for mental examination to ascertain whether all is still well in her brain. We are all in shock. We were about to join her in her mourning but we were left speechless after we heard music being played at a very high volume. I asked another neighbour to accompany me there and we found her dancing with some women and a few men,” said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The source said Zikhali was questioned about her seemingly uncultured behaviour by other neighbours and she sent them packing. She reportedly said life should not stop because her husband had died on Christmas Day.
“That woman is crazy. Even weddings do not go on if someone close to the groom or bride dies. This whole Christmas thing is a mockery of our values. I don’t think Jesus will be happy to see people soil the values of humanity using his name,” fumed a neighbour.
The source said Zikhali’s in-laws were gathered at their rural home and had decided not to involve her in the funeral proceedings.
“Who can blame them? I would have done the same if I were in their shoes. What she did is unheard of. Maybe she is from another planet,” said the source.
Our news crew caught up with Zikhali who by no means resembled a woman in mourning.
“Let them talk. I am living my life. So are they telling me that life should not go on after the death of my husband? They are getting it wrong. I wasn’t celebrating his death, but Christmas Day like all Christians,” said Zikhali.
The widow, who was putting on a gleeful smile during the interview further said she just wanted to relieve stress.
“I would have died of stress. A wife and husband dying on the same day, what would have that been? Perhaps good news for the media. I don’t care what they say. I know what I was doing and I am not going to sit here and try to please some people who do not even care about my welfare,” said the woman who lost her husband last week.
Zikhali said she was unmoved by the irreparable damage between her in-laws and herself.
“No one knows what I am going through, so it will be best for me to try and alleviate my stress by doing what makes me happy,” she said.

Man Kills Mother For Failing To Pay His School Fees, Then Commits Suicide

In a bizarre incident which left Mkoba residents in Gweru, Zimbabwe shell-shocked, a man reportedly strangled his mother after she failed to raise money to pay his school fees recently.
Gold
After killing his mother, the man also hanged himself.
A reliable source close to the now deceased revealed that Tapiwa Mutondo had a misunderstanding with his mother Grace Mutondo whom he accused of being irresponsible as she had not paid his school fees. The furious man reportedly decided to get rid of his mother and therefore proceeded to take petrol which he poured on her as he wanted to set her alight.
“His efforts to set his mother alight hit a brick wall as he ran out of matches. This angered him and he looked for a rope which he used to strange his mother until she passed out. When he realised that he had accomplished his mission, he then took the rope and hanged himself in the same room where his mother was lying dead,” said the source.
The two lifeless bodies were discovered by a neighbour who then alerted the police.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Leonard Chabata CONFIRMED the incident saying they received a report of a man who strangled his mother to death before committing suicide.
“We urge members of the public to always solve their differences amicably instead of resorting to violence. They can engage third parties if they have serious problems,” said Insp Chabata.
