Weighing just four stone, extreme anorexic Valeria Levitin is thought to be the thinnest woman in the world. Her malnourished figure and matchstick-thin thighs should serve as a stark warning about the dangers of eating disorders.
But worryingly, Valeria says she gets FAN MAIL from girls desperate to copy her skeletal look. The 39-year-old says:
“I have received emails from young girls who want me to teach them how to be like me”. “All the letters I’ve had are from women, mainly in their twenties, who see me as some kind of inspiration”
“This is why I want to campaign against anorexia. I am not going to teach them how to die. It is not a game, it is not a joke, it is your life”.
Valeria, who developed her eating disorder as a teenager, has chosen to speak out about how the illness has ruined her life and how she is desperate to win her battle in order to have a family.
“I want to share my story to help sufferers and their families from repeating my fate”, says Valeria, who is originally from Russia but now lives in Monaco. “I want young people to live happy, healthy and meaningful lives. Anorexia has made me lonely, unattractive and repulsive for the people around me.”
5ft 8in, Valeria’s weight should be between 9st and 12st, according to NHS advice. Instead she is a horrifying 4st 3lbs, less than HALF of what her lightest healthy weight should be.
At 16, and weighing 10st, Valeria moved to Chicago, USA, with her mum and stepdad. The move brought even more pressure to be slim.
She said:
“The environment was very different. I wanted to be liked everyone and I thought that if I lost weight, I would be accepted”.
“I started cutting out certain foods from my diet — I wouldn’t eat sugar or carbohydrates”. “I became trapped in a vicious circle where I needed to lose more weight to feel happy with myself”.
“Now it’s almost impossible to put the weight I’ve lost back on because my body can’t process many foods”.
When a classmate made a cruel comment about Valeria’s figure, she became even more determined to lose weight.
She explains: “We were playing football and during the game a man said, ‘I know how we can win. We need to put Valeria’s big ar*e in the goal’. It shattered my whole world”.
By the time she was 23, Valeria’s dress size had plummeted from a healthy size 12 to a tiny size six. And attempts at getting into modelling only made matters worse — because she was told she was STILL too fat.
Valeria’s passion was ballet and she dreamed of becoming a dancer. But at 24, and weighing just 6st, she was banned from dancing over concerns she would injure herself.
For the next ten years she saw more than 30 health specialists, though once dipped to a dangerously low 3st 10lbs.
She says now:
“This disease is not about being cured by a doctor”. “It’s a deeper problem than that; it’s a lack of harmony between body and soul. I never gained any weight seeing specialists. I have never been hospitalised.
“The best cure I ever found was when I said to myself, ‘I’m going to recover”.
“I was feeling better and when you feel better your body starts to come back to normal. When you become healthier your body will start eating, not vice versa.
“You don’t force yourself to eat then become better, it’s not like that”.
Today she takes supplements to counter the risk of bruising and avoids situations where she could fall.
Now Valeria believes the solution could lie in moving back to Moscow. There is one incentive to get well again having a baby via a surrogate. It is something she feels she can do if she can get herself healthy. “I think moving back to Moscow would help me once again feel at ease with myself”, she says.
“I would love to have a family because I feel I have so much to give”. “But obviously it wouldn’t be right to have a baby when I am ill. It wouldn’t be fair on the child”.
“I want to stand up to anorexia. I’ve never given up on anything in my life and I’m not about to give up now”. “I must win, in order to feel that my life hasn’t been wasted”.

Trailer Plunges Into River Killing 27
At least 27 people were reported dead, while 18 others sustained various degrees of injuries following an accident involving an articulated vehicle along Ruwa Wuri-Tangaza road on Monday, which also claimed the lives of a number of cows and sheep.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the trailer with plate number Sokoto XA 443 SAA, which was heading to Warri, Delta State from Mano village, allegedly lost control and plunged into a river close to Masallaci village in Tangaza Local Government.
The victims, who had been buried in Bagida village, reports say were from Bagida, Sabiyo, Tinnigere, Ruwa Wuri and Tsoni villages, all in the local government.
Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Sokoto, Dr. Umaru Aliyu, while confirming the incident said: “Our findings revealed that the accident occurred due to over-loading and over-speeding,” adding that the trailer was conveying both cows and humans.
“27 people died, while 15 were injured. Those injured are receiving treatment at Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, UDUTH, Sokoto, while the driver of the trailer and his motor boy fled,” Aliyu said.

Wealth in Garbage: Waste Disposal Worker Finds 18 Million Naira Cash In Rubbish
A worker at a waste disposal site has found 10,000 yen cash in a stream of pulverised rubbish, police say.“There were about a thousand (10,000) yen (N 18, 080, 000) bills that came out of a pulveriser unscathed,” a spokesman at the Asaminami police department in Hiroshima prefecture, in Japan’s west, said today.
He added that there were also 2300 fragments of bills destroyed by the machine at a municipal facility that processes large waste, such as cupboards and mattresses, that cannot be collected by regular garbage pick-up.
Police suspect the owner of the cash might have forgotten the money was there when he or she threw away some furniture.
“We believe it is unlikely there is anything criminal in this, although we must say we don’t know much about this money at all,” the spokesman said.
The cash was found on Monday. If no one comes forward within three months, the waste disposal facility will have the right to claim the money, the spokesman said

In an act of bestiality which attracted the fury of residents in a Kenyan community, a 40-year old man has been beaten to death by a mob after he was caught red handed having s*xual relations with a cow.
According to the cow owner, he heard his cow mowing wildly and on checking, he found his cow leg tied so that it won’t move while the man mounted it.
Upon raising an alarm, even as he fought to contain the man, shocked residents arrived at the scene of the incident to find the unclad man and the badly tied and injured cow.
The irate mob descended on the man beating him with blunt objects and stones which led to his death.
While confirming the incident, Kirinyaga OCPD Apollo Onyonyi, condemned the residents for taking the law into their own hands and beseeched them to allow police to deal with criminals.
The man’s remains were taken to Kerugoya Hospital mortuary.

Woman Who Sleeps With Dead People Appears In Court
In a written statement, the court said: “Criminal protection starts when a person dies, and the protection remains as long as there are remains of the deceased.
The fact that the woman had moved bones constitutes a crime because she was unauthorised to do so, just as it’s a crime to put together a skeleton and have it lying on the floor, to have bones in plastic bags, and to sell them.”
The woman’s haul was reported to amount to more than 100 parts from human skeletons, including a backbone, six skulls and a raft of other small parts, according to Swedish news agency TT.
Prosecutors alleged the woman used the bones for s*xual gratification. She was charged with “disturbing the peace of the dead” after police found incriminating photographs of her kissing and licking the remains.
Officers also found a video in the women’s flat, entitled ‘My Necrophilia’. According to AFP, a body bag, a drill and a photograph from a mortuary were also found. The skeleton parts were discovered after police were called to the woman’s flat in September after a gunshot was allegedly fired from the dwelling.
The woman denied the charges when appearing before Gothenburg District Court last month, claiming she kept the skeleton parts out of historical curiosity.
According to the GP, the accused had posted incriminating messages on Internet forums in the past.
She reportedly wrote: “My morals set my limits and I’m prepared to take the punishment if something should happen. It’s worth it. I want my man like he is, whether he is dead or alive. He allows me to find s*xual happiness on the side

Already hunger has been ruled out going by the average cost (over N900,000) of tuition per academic session for foreign students in a Ghanian university; because if his parents could pay his fees for studying in Ghana, that should mean they could afford it as well as cater for the needs of their son.

Principal of a secondary school in Ogun state, southwest Nigeria, has been dragged before the police by parents of students in her school for carrying out virginity tests on their wards without their consent.
Last week, students of Ajuwon High School near Akute, took to the streets in protest of the principal’s forced virginity test which took place in her office.
Most of the students who spoke on the issue said their principal, Mrs Aladeojebi accused most of them of promiscuity and later forced them to her office where she conducted the virginity test using her hand.
One of the pupils accused her of using her hand to puncture her ‘honey pot’. The student who is in SS1 burst into tears and decided to inform her parents. Other parents were also informed and the matter was subsequently reported at the Ajuwon police station.
The principal while reportedly confessing to the police said invited a nurse to conduct the test and denied the allegation that she used her hand claiming instead that “egg” was used.
“It is totally unacceptable for a school principal to conduct virgin test.Is that part of the school syllabus or was it ratified by the Ogun state government?” one of the witnesses asked rhetorically.

Site Of First Plane-Crash In Nigeria To Become Tourist Attraction
The site of the first plane crash recorded in Nigeria in 1942, in Ikogosi, Ekiti West Local Government Area of Ekiti State, southwest Nigeria, is to be converted to a tourist centre.
The decision to turn the site into a tourist centre was disclosed when the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Tourism Development, Segun Ologunleko, inspected the crash site on Wednesday in Ikogosi-Ekiti. He said this would turn the state into an attractive tourism destination in West Africa.
Ikogosi town, which is famous for playing host to Ikogosi spring – a water body where warm and cold water meet on the same spot, is expected to complement the new tourist site when it comes into operation.
Visible at the site of the crash were the relics of the two engines of the plane and other aluminum and metal scrap materials.

S*x-Starved Man Demands N1.2m Compensation From Wife’s Parents
Malam Mukailu Naibi of Keke Village, Kaduna, whose wife allegedly starved him of s*x for two years, on Wednesday demanded N1. 2 million as compensation from the wife’s parents before an Abuja Area Court.
Naibi, while testifying at the resumed hearing of the case, told the court that the amount, covered the bride price he paid before marrying Maryam, his wife.
He also told the court that the amount also covered the cost of damages done to the house after Maryam allegedly set the house on fire before fleeing to court to seek divorce.
Naibi, 37 while tendering written documents with records of all expenses made on his estranged wife and her parents, in addition to a witness to testify in his favour, told the court that his wife had refused to make love to him since they got married two years ago.
He also accused her of setting their house on fire.
“Your Worship, since we got married two years ago, my wife never allowed me to make love to her for once and all my attempts to do it always led to fighting.
“I married her out of love and I still love her, but with this development, I have no choice, but to ask the court to grant her divorce wish for the sake of peace,” Naibi said.
In her testimony, Maryam, who is 16 years old told the court how unimpressed she was with the one time time her husband made love to her hence, she wanted a divorce.
“I don’t love him, I don’t love anybody who bears his name and I hate anybody who loves him,” she told the court.
Maryam’s mother who was her only witness in court denied most of Naibi’s claims but admitted some, saying that Maryam’s father was in a better position to clarify some issues.
The Judge, Haruna Masanawa, after hearing all the submissions of the parties in the case, ordered the court’s registrar to summons more witnesses, including Maryam’s father.
He adjourned the case to Jan. 16, 2013 for further hearing. (NAN).

Jackie Chan Confirms Role In Sylvester Stallone Franchise ‘Expendables 3′
Jackie Chan has revealed he would be joining Sylvester Stallone in the third sequel of the franchise, Expendables 3.
Apparently the Hong Kong born Chan was supposed to partake in The Expendables 2 but declined the offer at the time because he had other projects of his that he was working on and now that he’s done with them, he has taken time to go over and decide on the way forward.
The actor was quoted as saying, “Sly had invited me to be in [The]Expendables 2 but I was too busy filming CZ12 and couldn’t make a commitment to the film.”
He further added his reason for joining the upcoming flick and his conditions: “But he (Stallone) did extend his invitation to the third movie, which I agreed on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes.”
The actor was quoted as saying, “Sly had invited me to be in [The]Expendables 2 but I was too busy filming CZ12 and couldn’t make a commitment to the film.”

Investigations reveal that most banks have cancelled the N100 service charge on customers’ use of Automated Teller Machines (ATM) withdrawal from banks other than their own.
A visit to some banks in Abuja earlier today showed that the banks had since complied with the new directive which was agreed on Dec. 9 at the fourth annual Bankers’ Committee’s retreat held in Calabar.
We also noticed that some bank customers are either not aware of the new trend as long queues could be seen at certain banks’ ATMs whereas other nearby banks were almost free of customers or had very short queues.
The new zero ATM charges throughout the country came into effect from Monday, 17th December and despite the initial scepticism that greeted its announcement, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, CBN governor and Chairman, Bankers’ Committee, had said that CBN would monitor the effective implementation of the cancellation.
