Undiluted Joy: Latif And Salima Flaunt Their Newborn Daughter, Ulfat
Latif’s joy stems from the fact that he and his wife, Salima, 25, who herself was born with just one foot, feared the child could inherit his condition. But alas! there apprehension soon gave way to joy as Ulfat, meaning ‘Love’ in Urdu, was born naturally at home, in Reasi district, on Novermber 10 2012 weighing a healthy 5lbs 5oz.
Latif, 32, soon as he heard his daughter was born, held her in his arms and quickly checked her over for any visible marks. He said, “I was extremely worried about my baby’s facial features. When I saw that she was pretty and fine, it was a great relief. She has a beautiful face, just like an angel.”

Meanwhile Salif, who got married to Latif in August 2008, has revealed that he has been a wonderful husband and believes he will go on to make a great father.
She said: “No matter what Latif looks like, I love being married to him. I don’t regret one day as his wife. I like him just the way he is. His face is God’s wish, we can’t do much with it so we accept it and live our lives.
“But thankfully it was not the same wish for our daughter. Our prayers were answered and our baby is fine. We refuse to waste another minute worrying about it now. We will live our lives, happily.”

Female fish are attracted to males that "flirt" with other males, a study has found.

Researchers discovered a tropical male fish that becomes more attractive to females when it displays homosexual behaviour.
Scientists believe homosexuality is widespread throughout the animal kingdom. But it can be puzzling since males that prefer same sex relations father fewer offspring than their heterosexual counterparts.
Research has shown the female Atlantic molly (Poecilia mexicana) prefer mating partners whom they saw having sex with a female - a phenomenon called mate copying.
This also occurred when males interacted sexually with another male, according to the findings published in Biology Letters.
Male fish can therefore increase their attractiveness towards females by displaying homosexual behaviour and thereby improve their chances of future heterosexual mating, the scientists believe.
"in most species, however, males that engage in same-sex sexual behaviour also mate with females, and in theory, same-sex mating could even increase male reproductive fitness if males improve their chances of future heterosexual mating.
"females regularly use social information to choose a mate; E.g male attractiveness increases after a m male has interacted sexually with a female (mate choice copying).
" Here we demostrate that males of the tropical fresh water  fish poecilia mexicana increase their attractiveness to females not only by opposite-sex, but  likewise, through same-sex interactions.
"hence, direct benefit for male of exhibiting homosexual behaviour may help explain its occurrence and persistence in species in which females rely on mate choice copying as one component of mate quality assessment,"

Corruption Has Eaten Deep In Nigeria — Wole Soyinka

Noble Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka has said that corruption was being used as a unifying factor in Nigeria as it had eaten deep in all sections of the country with no restriction.
Soyinka stated this yesterday while speaking at the Second Muazu Babangida Aliyu Annual National Literary Colloquium at Justice Legbo Kutigi Conference Centre, Minna.
He said that corruption was an heinous crime against the nation that must be tackled by every means possible saying that it was not restricted to any region, religion , tribe or ethnic group.
The literary icon maintained that since it was not restricted to any section of the country it could be seen as a unifying factor even as it has gradually destroyed the value and sense of nationhood.
Soyinka therefore urged writers to rise up against corruption.
He said writers should find solution to the problem of corruption and other vices through proper research works instead of bemoaning the situation.
Soyinka recalled that when the advance free fraud started in Nigeria it was called 419 and some writers gave it names as it was seen as a means of repatriation instead of rising against the scourge.
According to him vices like kidnapping should not be blamed on unemployment but a product of criminally minded individuals who are out to undermine the freedom of others for their own greed.
He  said, “let us not trivialise issues, it is criminal for anyone to throw bomb at market places and places of worship under the guise of marginalisation” adding that, “there is a difference between one taking arm against the authority and declaring war against the nation”.
Meanwhile, the colloquium followed the commissioning of Cyprian Ekwensi Library at F-layout Minna. The colloquium attracted 44 writers with Professor Charles Nnolim, Odia Ofeimun and Ahmed Maiwada as discussants and chaired by Professor Samsudeen Amali of Nassarawa State University.

Days of sodom: Gay Couple Sentenced To 14 Years In Jail

Thrown into jail for 14 years under Malawi’s anti-gay laws, Tiwonge Chimbalanga has no regrets about the marriage ceremony that became a symbol of Africa’s intolerance toward homosexuality.

In the first press interview since being granted asylum in South Africa, the 24-year-old, who was freed amid global pressure, urged more Malawians to come out from the shadows as the country’s ban on same-sex relationships eases.
“I don’t have any regrets, I didn’t do anything wrong,” Chimbalanga, who identifies as a transgender woman despite being tried as a gay man, told AFP.
Known as Aunt Tiwo, Chimbalanga and partner Steven Monjeza drew a harsh spotlight on deeply conservative Malawi after the couple were arrested for holding a traditional engagement ceremony in late 2009. Branded as Malawi’s first openly “gay lovebirds”, the pair were sentenced to a maximum 14 years with hard labour as an “horrendous example” and led away from the court handcuffed to one another while onlookers jeered.
“I had mixed feelings because on the one hand I felt it was a wonderful thing for me to do a normal, natural thing like getting married, whilst on the other hand it was very painful. I was beaten in prison. During the trial the security guards ill-treated me. I was verbally abused and suffered all sorts of inhumane treatments, I have scars from the beatings. Yet I felt good that I was able to do what I wanted to do,” said Chimbalanga.
International outrage eventually forced a begrudging presidential pardon from the late Bingu wa Mutharika who doggedly described the couple as “insane” and their ceremony as “satanic.”
A recent moratorium on the ban on same-sex relationships under new President Joyce Banda is encouraging, but the war is far from over, said Chimbalanga.
“The thing that I wish for in Malawi is that all gays, lesbians and transgenders must come out and have their rights like everybody else. It seems that in Malawi there are human rights for the rich and another set for the poor. I want everyone to have their human rights and freedom to choose what they want to be and the only way to achieve that is by coming out and claiming their rights,” she said.
After their release, the couple broke up and Chimbalanga spent months hiding in a safe house before being ferried last year to South Africa, which has equality rights enshrined in the constitution. It is also the only African country where gay marriage is legal. Homosexuality is illegal in 37 countries on the continent.
Chimbalanga is supported by local transgender NGO Gender Dynamix and Amnesty International and in her new one-room home, reached by an outdoor staircase lined with pot plants, a bulging file of papers documents her ordeal. Chimbalanga believes the couple were targeted as they were the first to take their relationship so public.
“I did nothing wrong not even a tiny bit. Even here in South Africa I want to get married and I am going to invite the reporters from Malawi to come and witness for themselves and to report the truth about it. I want the whole world to know because this is not the end,” she said.

The source believes his friend committed suicide after suffering stroke for months and losing all hope in living.
The source said, after they learnt of the death of fellow actor Pete Eneh, the actor contacted his friend and spoke the following words to him:
“I’m suffering [name of friend], I need a peaceful place. See my condition is getting worse daily. I need a better place.”
The close friend said after that call he quickly paid him a visit in India to better hear from him. Enebeli according to the close friend, said he was not happy about his condition though the doctors at the hospital were taking good care of him.
Enebeli Elebuwa told me, “please tell the doctors, I need a better place”, the friend said.
“I said there is no better place than here now when your time is over, God will take you by himself. Don’t worry I will be here for you. Because of his condition I changed my ticket to leave India one month later because I think he needs someone to talk to constantly” – The friend said.
The man further said he left the hospital for his hotel that day and to his surprise, on getting to the hospital the next morning, he learnt he has died.
“One thing I forgot to do is to tell the doctors to put him on suicide watch. But whatever happens, I know he is in a better place. He is irreplaceable.I will forever miss him. May the soul of my best friend Andrew rest in peace,” concluded the source.

There is certainly not going to be an end to the controversies that emerge from Nigeria’s privately owned – especially Christian – Universities. And when it come to controversies one of the universities in the forefront in this regard is no other than Covenant University (CU) in Ogun State.
Reports emerging from the university has it that say that a student of the institution was recently suspended after he was caught watching the music video teaser for Jarmeu’s ‘Booty Bash’. The Covenant University student (identity withheld), was caught watching the nearly x-rated music video of Jarmeu, who is one of Nigeria’s fast rising artistes.
The school, which is owned by Nigeria’s billionaire’s pastor, David Oyedepo’s Winners Chapel Church, as most people might have heard, does not allow the use of mobile phones by its students.
Therefore, when the student’s phone was seized, it was discovered that he had been watching a music video that had the flaunting of ‘booties’, which belonged to Jarmeu. The student was then punished for ‘indecent conduct’ and got suspended from the school by the school authorities.

HORROR: Man Lives With Girlfriend’s Corpse For Six Months

Grisly details have emerged in the death of a woman whose body was found badly decomposed in a Stockton apartment last December.

Prosecutors say Devon Epps murdered his girlfriend and then lived with her rotting corpse, which he kept in the bathtub, for months.
Veronica Jones, a 35-year-old mother of ten, was first reported missing by family members in June of last year. It wasn’t until Epps was evicted from his home six months later that the apartment manager discovered her body. According to authorities, her face had been beaten beyond recognition.
Epps was arrested and charged with murder two days later. Management at his building said he suffered from mental problems and kicked him out for incidents relating to his illness.
“Violence, yelling, screaming, destruction, and women locked in the room,” apartment management employee Leslie Pearce told CBS News upon his arrest.
Jurors were shown graphic images of the crime scene during Epps’ trial, which began on Friday. The coroner says Jones was bludgeoned with a metal pedestal, raped and stabbed 32 times.
“It’s morbid, it’s disgusting,” Jones’ brother, Isaac Zuniga, said when the victim’s body was first discovered. “I’m horrified by the experience my sister went through.”

Christian Woman Murdered By Muslim Ex-boyfriend For Challenging Him Over Daughter’s Conversion To Islam

A Muslim man was jailed for life today for stabbing his devout Christian ex-girlfriend 13 times after they split following bitter rows about him wanting their young daughter to convert to Islam.
photo
Esther Arogundade, 32, was attacked by kitchen porter Shola Adebiyi in her own home after she began a relationship with another man.
Adebiyi also drank oven cleaner in an attempt to kill himself and phoned Esther’s new lover to say he would never see her again before confessing to the killing to a friend.
Police broke into the mother-of-two’s home in Salford, Greater Manchester, and found KFC worker Esther lying dead on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds to her back and front.
Adebiyi was jailed at Manchester Crown Court for a minimum of 20-and-a-half years after admitting killing her.
The court heard how Esther began dating Adebiyi in 2007 and that they later had a daughter now aged two but split up last year after a series of rows.
Rob Hall prosecuting said: ‘These arguments were ignited by differences of opinion over the religion of their daughter – the defendant wanted her to convert from Christian to Islam, but Esther was a church goer.
‘There were arguments about expenses, bills and childcare.’
Last March Esther, who also had a nine-year-old daughter living in Nigeria from a previous relationship began a friendship with another man named in court as Mr Alabi.
While visiting family in Africa Mr Alabi received a sinister phone call from Adebiyi, claiming he would be killed if he returned to the UK.
Mr Alabi told Esther about the call and she spoke to Adebiyi but he initially denied it.
Mr Hall added: ‘Mr Alabi returned to the UK and the relationship took the next step and it turned into a sexual relationship.
‘They spent a great deal of time talking and texting on their mobile phones – it may well be that it came to the attention of the defendant.’
On June 26, Adebiyi cleared out his locker at work at a conference centre in Manchester then left armed with a large kitchen knife and waited for Esther and their daughter to come home.
Throughout that evening there were phone calls between Mr Alabi and Esther and also a child minder who was booked for the next day.
But the following morning Adebiyi was said to have made ‘frantic arrangements’ to get child care for his daughter and handed her over at 9.50am along with her birth certificate and left in her push chair. He then called Mr Alabi, who asked about the whereabouts and welfare of Esther only to be told he would never see her again.
He then called a friend and confessed he had killed Esther, claiming it had happened during a fight.
The friend went to the house and saw Adebiyi come out wearing a blood-stained t-shirt and holding a large black-handled knife.
He saw him throw the knife into nearby bushes.
In mitigation defence counsel Michael Lavery said his client had made a ‘very genuine’ attempt to take his own life by drinking oven cleaner.
He added: ‘He took the knife to kill himself and his partner. He’s lost his daughter as well as a consequence of his own actions.
‘It is tragic for the victim of this murder and a tragedy for the daughter and for the father too. It is his own fault, I know, but that is not going to make it easier for her.’
Passing sentence Judge Andrew Gilbart QC told Adebiyi it was not clear exactly when he had killed Esther.
He added: ‘Your relationship had come to an end with frequent disagreements and rows between the two of you.
‘She formed a relationship with another man. You resented it, and tried to warn him off with threats.
‘She let you know that she no longer wanted to be with you and wanted to pursue a relationship with another man.
‘You were most upset at that prospect. She sought friendship elsewhere, including in an affair with another man. You were understandably upset but let me be clear about this.
‘Many men and women have to endure the discovery that the husband, wife or partner is no longer content with the relationship they have.
‘Many are jealous or unhappy. But what the law cannot and will not permit is the use of violence, which is what you used.
‘I am prepared to accept that you were very upset – and indeed distraught – at what was happening to your relationship.
‘When you acted as you did you were under considerable emotional strain.’
After the case Senior Investigator Andrew Tattersall of Greater Manchester Police said: ‘The biggest tragedy here is that a young girl has now been deprived of both her parents.
‘Her mother was taken from her in a vengeful, violent attack and no sentence today can bring her back.’
