Six Year Old Girl Drowns in Septic Tank In Edo State

Not Actual Image: Exposed Septic Tank
A six-year old girl simply identified as Miss Erenmwon, fell into a septic tank and got drowned. The incident took place at Osaretin Street, Off Murtala Muhammed Way, Benin City. Narrating how the incident, one of the occupants of the building who pleaded anonymity said the late Erenmwon was given N10 to go and  buy biscuit, and on her way to a neighbourhood shop, she fell into an exposed septic tank.
It was learnt that when Erenmwon’s dad discovered his daughter fell into the septic tank, he went to search for a ladder with which to climb into the pit so as to rescue her; a move which was a little too late as the girl had drowned already.
The landlord of the building where the exposed septic tank is located, has been arrested by men of the Nigeria Police who got wind of the incident.

42 Year Old Teacher Sleeps With 5 Underage Boys, Lures Them With Her Pictures

A teaching assistant had unprotected sex with five teenage boys in her care and sent them pictures of herself playing with sex toys.
Married Emma Webb, 42, performed sex acts on the pupils – aged 15 to 17 – during free period and detention at the Berkshire school.
She groomed them by taking them out for meals at Kentucky Fried Chicken and giving them lifts to school, Reading Crown Court heard.
The supply teacher and mentor, who admitted a total of 30 charges relating to the offences involving five boys at the secondary school, even joked with one boy about having his baby.
Sentencing the tearful teacher to 32 months in jail, Judge John Reddihough said: ‘All of these offences involved serious breaches of trust that was placed in you as a study supervisor at the school in question.
‘You were expected to support and assist the five boys concerned and you were a mentor to at least two of them.
‘Instead you undoubtedly groomed them for sexual purposes by buying them food and presents, inviting them to your home and driving them to and from school.’
The first youngster to catch the eye of the mother of two was a 15-year-old, who she would question about his sexual experiences. The pair were so close they drew the attention of fellow pupils.
‘Others were saying they should get a bed in the classroom, it appeared she enjoyed that jest,’ said Simon Heptonstall, prosecuting. ‘She said she liked his bum and squeezed it.
‘She continued sexual texting when her husband was not around and texted him saying, “fancy a play?”.’
The court heard that Webb told the boy if he told anyone about the texts she would lose her job and that her plumber husband Andy ‘had a history of violence’, so the youngster would ‘end up with no kneecaps.’
Webb started asking the boy to visit her and said he was ‘a special boy’, said Mr Heptonstall.
Webb then moved on to another student, aged 16. After taking him to KFC with a group of boys in his year, Webb started texting him and asking him to go to her home for sex.
When the boy obliged, Webb performed a sex act on him, saying ‘we shouldn’t be doing this’ before he left following a call from his mother.
On another visit during one of his free periods, she again performed a sex act. The pair then began to meet up around twice a week for sex when he was not in lessons.
‘There was never any use of contraception,’ said Mr Heptonstall.
The third boy was sent to the school’s intervention room, where Webb lifted up her skirt and told him to touch her sexually, which he did until the school bell sounded 10 or 15 minutes later.
She told him not to tell anyone, and followed that up by sending him explicit photographs by mobile, the court heard.
On another occasion she asked the boy to walk her dog with her and had sex with him on her staircase, in what the court was told was the teenager’s first sexual experience.
Webb had shown the fourth boy explicit photographs of herself using sex toys after he was sent to the intervention room for misbehaving.
‘He was caught drawing a penis when he was doodling in class,’ said Mr Heptonstall. ‘She bluntly asked to see his.’
The pair later went on to have unprotected sexual intercourse, prompting Webb to say to the boy ‘imagine if we had black babies now’.
Webb also gave the fifth boy lifts to school, and the court heard she made him feel ‘as though he was the only one who cared for her.’
At a school prom, the pair posed for photographs where Webb had her feather boa draped over him, which the boy’s mother described as featuring them as ‘looking like a couple’.
‘She referred to him as her baby and said she loved him,’ said Mr Heptonstall. ‘He would walk the dog with her regularly, two or three times a week, and on one occasion they would go to her house.’
Webb was suspended from the school, which cannot be identified for legal reasons, and investigated after another teacher saw a message from the boy where he told Webb that he loved her.
The court was told that Webb initially denied that anything untoward had happened, but admitted that she was a tactile person.
Webb, who held her head in her hands as the details of her offences were read out, looked tired and red-eyed as she sat in the dock, dressed in a grey striped top.
She admitted to 16 counts relating to sex with three of the boys at an earlier court hearing, and to a further 14 charges relating to the other two boys prior to her sentencing hearing today.
The teacher admitted four counts of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child and six counts of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child by a position of trust.
She also pleaded guilty to three counts of causing a child to watch a sex act by viewing a sexual image, one count of sexual activity with a child and 16 counts of sexual activity with a child in a position of trust between September 2, 2009 and May 1, 2012.
She denied a further charge of perverting the course of justice, which the court was told would lie on file.
None of the boys can be identified for legal reasons. Most told police they had not been affected by Webb’s activities, although one said he felt he had been taken advantage of.
Jennifer Edwards, defending, said Webb had been good at her job, and that the boys had said she was kind to them.
She said Webb regretted her actions and hoped to rebuild her marriage after her release from prison, but could not give a reason why she had embarked on sexual relationships with pupils.
‘Why on earth did she do this? There was nothing for her to gain from having sexual play with boys at her school,’ said Ms Edwards. ‘There was everything for her to lose and nothing to gain.’
She added: ‘They are young and vulnerable but these are young boys on the road to manhood.’
Ms Edwards suggested her offending was in part linked to the murder of her brother several years ago.
‘Each of the boys she became involved with, it appears she spoke to them about her lost brother,’ she said. ‘Perhaps she was looking for some sort of solace.’
No details of the murder were heard by the court.
Ms Edwards added that the judge had been sent a ‘heartfelt’ letter by Webb, plus others in support from other people, including her parents, her children and her husband, who is standing by her.
Judge Reddihough sentenced Webb to 32 months in prison, after he took off a third of her sentence for an early guilty plea.
He told her she could expect to serve half of that behind bars, including the 168 days she has already spent in custody.
‘It may be that to some extent the boys were over 16 at the time of some of the offences, ‘ said the judge. ‘But they were under 18 and you were in a position of trust towards them.
‘What you did will have had an adverse effect on the complainants.
‘There is a real risk they will have twisted attitudes towards females and sex, and be confused as to the appropriate boundaries between adults and children or young people in their care.’
Despite attending court for all of Webb’s previous appearances, her husband was not present today.
A woman who answered the door at their home in Reading said that he was at work.

The 10 Lies That Women Tell Their Men The Most

1. ”I’ve slept with [X] guys.” Maybe she rounds up. Maybe she rounds down. Maybe she can’t remember. Whatever the case may be, more than a few women have lied about how many sexual partners they’ve had. Maybe she feels self-conscious. Maybe her number is higher than yours. To increase the likelihood she’ll tell the truth, make her confess first.

2. “That was great.” Listen, nobody’s pointing fingers. Sometimes bad sex is a no-fault proposition. But if it’s not good for her, it’s altogether possible she may not be enlightening you on that matter. Whether she’s just not that into it tonight or she’s just not that into you, it’s hard for some women to be frank about sex, especially when the news isn’t good. Rely on her body language instead.
3. ”I have never nor would I ever cheat on you.” Do you remember that show on VH1, “Tough Love: Couples“? The number one cause of screaming fights? Cheating. Or, more specifically, lying about cheating. It’s not easy to tell someone when you’ve messed up; the fallout can be brutal. Remember: What you don’t know can spare you.
4. “I weight [X].” Here’s the thing. Women don’t lie about their weight because of you. Their reasons for doing it have everything to do with them. Not all women lie about their weight, but some do, and they do it for all kinds of reasons. Because they want to weigh less, because they want to weigh more, because they’re not sure and that number sounds about right. Women and their weight are a mysterious relationship with which you may not want to interfere. Take her word for it.
5. “Sure, you can call me.” Sometimes, when we’re face-to-face with a guy, and he’s asking us out on a first or for a second date, it’s tough to, er, woman-up and say, “You know what? Um, no.” We don’t want to be heartbreakers. We want to be nice. We’re sure you’ll get the message when we never call you back.
6. “I’ll be ready in a minute.” Listen, if before you left the house to go out on a date, you had to shower, shave half your body, slather yourself in moisturizer, apply 99 overpriced products, put on several layers of makeup, flat-iron your hair, pick out the perfect outfit that makes you look sophisticated/sexy/spectacular, it would take you a long time to get ready, too. So, wait.
7. “I don’t know.” We don’t know (ha!) if we’re going to get a lot of agreement on this one, but we are of the opinion that a lot of times when a woman says, “I don’t know,” she does, in fact, know. Women are intuitive like a nuclear power plant is radioactive, and it is upon our internal sonars that we rely. Mostly, we do know. We may not be ready to tell you.
8. “That was delicious!” If you cooked, we don’t care how it tastes. We will tell you we love it. Love us for that.
9. “I’m fine.” We’re going to go out on a limb here and suggest this is the single most common lie told by women to men. Or, you know, at the very least it’s the lie we’ve told most often to men. We are emotional creatures! Sometimes, we get upset! Maybe it’s because our Aries is in your Venus, maybe it’s because we got promoted at work and we’re scared as hell about living up to our own lofty goals, or maybe we’re in a mood. It’s up to you to figure out if you want to walk into our minefield or keep a safe distance away. Usually, your best bet is listening.
10. “It was on sale.” It wasn’t. Deal with it.

Most Nigerian ladies remain single at 35 because they are looking for ready-made men – Fred Agbaje

A popular Lagos Lawyer and human rights activist, Fred Agbaje, in a recent interview with Yes magazine, spoke extensively on how he cope with Nigerian women and his perception about them. His words below:
“If you abandon your job and begin to pursue women, they will bring you down. The average Nigerian woman, they want successful men; those who have made their marks in their professions, those who have a name. But you have to be careful to avoid them, otherwise they will bring you down; otherwise they will cause you distractions.”
Mr Agbaje continues: “And let me tell you, it’s not all the girls out there that have anything to offer you; it’s what they can take from you. Otherwise why don’t they go for people who are still struggling? 75% of Nigerian women today, they want successful men. Meanwhile, ask them what their contribution to help that man to greater heights, nothing!
“I resume work 7 o’clock, I close 10,11pm every day. So, I have no time for those frivolities. So, is it the type of me that one lady will be running after? I’m not saying they don’t come after me, they come after me, but I know that they just want to associate with the name and what they can get. Not what they are going to contribute; they have nothing to contribute, they have nothing to offer me and that is typical of 75% of Nigerian women out there.
“That is why most of them remain single at 35.Because they are looking for ready-made men, not who they can build with… Not even coming in and helping you to develop further… That’s why you use and dump them!”
So, ladies there you have it. Has he said it exactly as it is?

Inside The Lion’s Den of Nigeria’s Boko Haram

Yvonne Ndege is a British-Kenyan journalist based in Abuja, Nigeria. She is the West Africa Correspondent for the English-language news channel, Al Jazeera English. Here, she shares her experience of visiting Boko-Haram-torn Maiduguri.
My five days in Maiduguri in northeastern Nigeria – the epicentre of violence perpetrated by the armed group, Boko Haram – was fraught with danger. I had been trying to get access to report from the city for over a year.
I had been told that I needed clearance from the head of Nigeria’s armed forces to report from the ground. I’d also been told that Maiduguri was classified as a “security zone”, off-limits to journalists, according to the ministry of information. In the end, I decided to take a chance and make the journey, hoping to come out with some reportage but prepared to get absolutely nothing too. All this was against the advice of security advisors, professional colleagues, NGOs and government contacts.
For months I had heard that Boko Haram had taken control of not just Maiduguri, the state capital, but large swathes of Borno State. I had been to Maiduguri a few times before, including in 2009 when I reported on the killing of the group’s leader, Mohammed Yusuf, while in police custody.
Before the chaos took hold, I remembered Maiduguri as a surprisingly cosmopolitan and peaceful town, with an eclectic mix of people of different faiths, ethnicities, and subcultures; as well as different types of food and music. The people of Maiduguri had struck me as ordinary people, with a somewhat royal air, steeped in their tradition – but at the same time having a somewhat modern and outward look. Borno State shares borders with the former French colonies of Niger to the north and Chad to the north-east – giving one a strange feeling of being in Francophone Africa too.
During my five days there, I found a Maiduguri under siege by Boko Haram fighters and the Joint Task Force. The colour described above had been replaced by a city enmeshed in road blocks, checkpoints, sandbags on virtually every major road and intersection. The city was patrolled by heavily armed military personnel donning ski masks, poised to fire at any moment.
A TV vehicle like our own, visibly packed with television equipment, could easily provoke suspicion. So our first priority was to unpack our kit at our hotel so we could travel light, and go out and talk to as many people as possible.
It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to film openly in Maiduguri because of the threat of violence from Boko Haram. In our time there we heard the noise of bombs exploding, and bullets being fired – followed by the screeching of JTF sirens that seemed to be coming from all directions. This happened every 2-3 hours. We later learned that Boko Haram had attacked a JTF position with rocket-propelled grenades just adjacent to our hotel.
We were stopped from filming on several occasions by JTF patrols who demanded to know whether we had military clearance to report from the city. It seemed like the only reason we were not forcibly stopped from newsgathering was because the soldiers we encountered were familiar with my face and my reports on Boko Haram. This seemed to cool things down. And – it has to be said – the huge popularity of Al Jazeera English in the region helped.
The security situation in Maiduguri is so bad that tens of thousands of people from “Maiduguri-stan”, as some Nigerians nickname the city, have fled. They are unable to live a normal life, not knowing whether they may be caught up in the daily bomb explosions, suicide attacks and gunfire that rocks parts of the city. Those we spoke to who chose to remain in Maiduguri say it’s because it’s their home and they have no other place to go to, or the means to leave for elsewhere.
According to Father David Bridling, from St Patrick’s Catholic Church, half the Christian inhabitants of Borno State have left. But the “irony” of the Boko Haram insurgency is that more Muslims than people of any other faith have been killed by Boko Haram attacks – even though the group claims to want to “grow” Islam in Nigeria.
The curfew in Maiduguri is strictly enforced. No movement is allowed in Borno State between 2000GMT and 0500GMT. But inhabitants have adopted their own timetable for staying alive. People we spoke to said nobody tries to leave home before 11am and everyone gets back home by 4pm, as most of the fighting between Boko Haram and the JTF happens in the early hours of the day. If there’s no fighting, people rush out to do whatever small-scale business they can to survive, and quickly return home.
Three senior JTF personnel who were gracious enough to meet with us informally about the situation tried to explain just how bad the Boko Haram crisis is. They used the words “war zone”, “Iraq”, and “guerilla war” to describe the battle. They explained that Boko Haram fighters are embedded in many of the communities and neighbourhoods in the city, and that it was impossible to distinguish their fighters from civilians.
Two of the JTF personnel expressed confidence that the “war” would soon be over, though another was more sceptical, explaining that Boko Haram fighters’ “jihad” in Nigeria was being inspired by conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Yemen. Worryingly for Nigeria and for the region, neighbouring Mali’s northern region – which has recently been overrun by al-Qaeda-linked groups – was mentioned as a possible place from which Boko Haram fighters may be getting weapons. This officer saw no imminent end to the crisis.
Poverty, unemployment, a lack of education, marginalisation, and endemic corruption in Nigeria are cited as some of the reasons why Boko Haram has not been stamped out in over a year of fighting with security forces. There is a feeling that the Nigerian government is not addressing these issues, focusing too heavily on a military strategy to rid the country of the group.
Whatever the case, the journey out of the Boko Haram crisis in Maiduguri will be a complex one. Until the authorities can find a solution that quells the fighting and stops young men from being recruited to the group, Maiduguri will remain in crisis.

Eko 2012: Tragedy Averted As Gold Winner Is Revived After Collapsing

Medics Attending To Ondo State Swimmer, Ibukun Adamolekun
The National Sports Festival 2012 tagged ‘Eko 2012’, lived up to its billing as Nigeria’s foremost sports event as sportsmen and women from across the states of the federation, battle tooth and nail to emerge victorious.
A classic example was in the beginning of the final of 200 m Butterfly for women, when Ibukun Adamolekun took a comfortable lead at the first and second laps.
She appeared to be coasting to the gold even on the third lap. But Emutimu Duke of Delta wouldn’t give up without a fight as she almost caught up with her in the final lap.  Emutimu surprised all and the loud cheers was just the motivation she needed to take the lead.
But Ibukun would rather die than lose the gold that once appeared within reach before the hot chase. She gave her all and still won it but it was not as easy as she impressed in the beginning.
She was exhaused and while celebrating her hard earned gold she saw herself gasping for breath and was falling back into the pool before she was quickly rescued after she signaled danger and called for help.
She collapsed and the medical team battled to her. The arena roaring spectators turned quiet as silent prayers were offered to avert what could be a tragedy. After about five minutes, Ibukun was revived and the fans once more cheered the gold winner as she was taken to the medical room for further attention.

How Omotola And Genevieve Were Tricked Into Appearing In The Same Movie

Arguably Africa’s most famous actresses with a fan base wide enough to win an election, not many were unsurprised to see Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and Genevieve Nnaji feature together once again in a movie. This is more so following their purported rivalry and envy of each other. Although they’ve never confirmed or deny their rivalry, industry watchers insist there exists an unwritten rival code between the two divas.
Interestingly, both actresses have acted as sisters in more movies than any other rivals in Nollywood. Therefore, it was a sort of coup when Chineze Anyaeze got both rivals to act again as sisters in Ije, a movie which was her project work at the film school.
Revealing how she achieved the feat of convincing Omotola and Genevieve to take part in her project, Anyaeze said, “When I was even thinking of approaching them, a lot of people discouraged me saying the pair don’t talk but I went ahead to ‘chase’ them for months.
“When I called Omotola, she asked who the other actress was, I said Genevieve and when I called Genevieve she asked who the other actress was, I said Omotola (laughs).
“And she was like, ‘has she agreed?’ I said yes and Omotola asked me too if Genevieve had agreed, I said yes meanwhile they hadn’t even agreed (laughs) but I had to use that trick to be able to get them together in the film,” the Masters degree holder in Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy (NYFA) disclosed.”
Speaking further on her experience with them and how both got together on set, Anyaeze revealed, “It was a wonderful experience working with these two stars, they knew I was a student at the New York Film Academy at that time.
“So, when the production started on the first day, they didn’t take part but they observed the session. When their turn came, they were very professional all the way, it was pleasant scenery all through.”
Ije which grossed over N60 million at the cinemas, a feat that makes it the highest grossing Nigerian movie in the cinemas, was finally released on DVD on Monday, December 3, 2012.
