In Panicky Russia, It’s Official: End of World Is Not Near

MOSCOW — There are scattered reports of unusual behavior from across Russia’s nine time zones.
Inmates in a women’s prison near the Chinese border are said to have experienced a “collective mass psychosis” so intense that their wardens summoned a priest to calm them. In a factory town east of Moscow, panicked citizens stripped shelves of matches, kerosene, sugar and candles. A huge Mayan-style archway is being built — out of ice — on Karl Marx Street in Chelyabinsk in the south. For those not schooled in New Age prophecy, there are rumors the world will end on Dec. 21, 2012, when a 5,125-year cycle known as the Long Count in the Mayan calendar supposedly comes to a close. Russia, a nation with a penchant for mystical thinking, has taken notice. Last week, Russia’s government decided to put an end to the doomsday talk. Its minister of emergency situations said Friday that he had access to “methods of monitoring what is occurring on the planet Earth,” and that he could say with confidence that the world was not going to end in December. He acknowledged, however, that Russians were still vulnerable to “blizzards, ice storms, tornadoes, floods, trouble with transportation and food supply, breakdowns in heat, electricity and water supply.” Similar assurances have been issued in recent days by Russia’s chief sanitary doctor, a top official of the Russian Orthodox Church, lawmakers from the State Duma and a former disc jockey from Siberia who recently placed first in the television show “Battle of the Psychics.” One official proposed prosecuting Russians who spread the rumor — starting on Dec. 22. “You cannot endlessly speak about the end of the world, and I say this as a doctor,” said Leonid Ogul, a member of Parliament’s environment committee. “Everyone has a different nervous system, and this kind of information affects them differently. Information acts subconsciously. Some people are provoked to laughter, some to heart attacks, and some — to some negative actions.” Russia is not the only country to face this problem. In France, the authorities plan to bar access to Bugarach mountain in the south to keep out a flood of visitors who believe it is a sacred place that will protect a lucky few from the end of the world. The patriarch of Ukraine’s Orthodox Church recently issued a statement assuring the faithful that “doomsday is sure to come,” but that it will be provoked by the moral decline of mankind, not the “so-called parade of planets or the end of the Mayan calendar.” In Yucatán State in Mexico, which has a large Mayan population, most place little stock in end-of-days talk. Officials are planning a Mayan cultural festival on Dec. 21 and, to show that all will be well after that, a follow-up in 2013. Russians, however, can be powerfully transported by emotions, as the Rev. Tikhon Irshenko witnessed during his visit to Prison Colony No. 10 in the village of Gornoye. In an interview with the Data news service, Father Tikhon said he was summoned to the prison in November. The wardens told him that anxiety over the Mayan prophecy had been building for two months, and some inmates had broken out of the facility “because of their disturbing thoughts.” Some of the women were sick, or having seizures, he said. “Once, when the prisoners were standing in formation, one of them imagined that the earth yawned, and they were all stricken by fear and ran in all directions,” the priest said. He lectured the inmates about the signs of the apocalypse according to the New Testament, he said, and after that “the populist statements about the end of the world were dispelled and the tension eased.” More common are reports about panicky buying. In Ulan-Ude, the capital of the Buryatiya region, citizens have reportedly been hoarding food and candles to survive a period without light, following instructions from a Tibetan monk called the Oracle of Shambhala, who has been described on some Russian television broadcasts. A similar account appeared in a local newspaper in the factory town of Omutninsk, about 700 miles east of Moscow.

Viktoria Ushakova, the editor in chief of the newspaper, told the Interfax news agency that she ran the article as entertainment on the last page of her newspaper, in a section entitled “Relax” that also includes crossword puzzles. The ensuing panic, accompanied by a barrage of calls from distraught readers, lasted for a week and a half and then spread to nearby villages.

“I checked myself today,” she said. “There are no candles in all of Omutninsk.” Last week, lawmakers in Moscow took up the matter, addressing a letter to Russia’s three main television stations asking them to stop airing material about the prophecy. “You get the sense that the end of the world is a commercial project,” Mikhail Degtyaryov told the newspaper Izvestiya. “Just look at how many swindlers are trying to make money on this affair, starting from the pseudo-magicians, ending with people selling groceries and other rations.” Though news outlets are likely to pay a price for this episode, Maria Eismont, a columnist for the newspaper Vedomosti, argued that the government’s recent embrace of archaic religious conservatism set the stage for apocalyptic thinking. At the blasphemy trial against the punk protest band Pussy Riot last summer, she noted, the young band members were sentenced in part on the basis of writings by Orthodox clerics from the seventh and fourth centuries. “It would be unfair to consider Omutninsk a unique site of flourishing mysticism,” she wrote. “If Cossacks in operatic costumes march in downtown Moscow, and the State Duma is quite seriously considering introducing punishment for the violation of believers’ feelings, then why shouldn’t people living in a depressed town a thousand kilometers from Moscow not buy matches out of a fear of cosmic flares?” As the first three weeks of December melt away, Russians will approach the deadline with their characteristic mordant humor. An entrepreneur in the Siberian city of Tomsk, for example, has sold several thousand gag emergency kits, a cleverly packaged $29 parcel including sprats, vodka, buckwheat, matches, candles, a string and a piece of soap. The motto on the package offers a classic Russian commentary on the end of the world: “It can’t be worse.”

Damn Crazy:Mike Tyson undergoes Sex Change a Woman"happy his going to have a V*gina"

Former undisputed heavyweight boxing champion of the world Mike Tyson is said to be ‘feeling fine’ after undergoing successful gender reassignment surgery at a clinic near Beverley Hills. Once known as ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’, the Brooklyn-born boxer told reporters that having his first menstrual cycle ‘would be a dream come true’, and that from now on he would be known as Michelle.
‘Some people might think it strange that I’m now a woman,’ said former rapist Tyson, who underwent complete facial feminization, orbital bone contouring and nasal surgery in an operation lasting over 16 hours. ‘But even at the height of my career, when pound for pound I was regarded as the best fighter in the world, I never lost touch with my feminine side and knew that one day I would grow breasts and have a vagina.’
Iron Mike – or Iron Maiden as he now likes to be called – was given the all-clear for gender reassignment surgery following a successful course in hormone replacement therapy which, in his autobiography, the boxer blamed for his 1996 defeat at the hands of Evander Holyfield. Although at the time Tyson insisted he was fit enough to carry on with the fight, referee Mitch Halpern stopped the bout in the 11th round saying Tyson looked flushed, was sweating profusely and appeared to be lactating heavily from his left breast.
Tyson, wearing a blonde wig and looking relaxed in blue jeans and a Vanessa Bruno T-shirt, today said he hoped having a clitoris would finally convince the American people that his ‘bad-boy’ days were over and he had turned over a new leaf. ‘I’m even keeping my surgically removed penis in a jar by my bedside to remind me what those sick perverts did to us pretty boys in prison.’
Although boxing commentators were initially stunned by Tyson’s revelation, many have admitted the signs were there. ‘In hindsight, he had shown a fondness for dressing up in gloves, long leather boots and silk gowns, and he always had a really close interest in earrings.’

Okolo wins Miss University Nigeria beauty pageant

Miss Winfrey Okolo, a student of the University of Benin, has won the 2012 Miss University Nigeria (MUN) beauty pageant.
Okolo emerged the winner by beating 48 other contestants in Abuja on Friday night.
The beauty queen received a star prize of a Nissan Sony car and one million naira.
In an interview after her installation, Okolo said that the event marked her first participation at a beauty contest, thanking God for enabling her to excel at the competition.
She, however, pledged to make good use of her position to affect the lives of Nigerian youths.
“I will try to stimulate a change in the Nigerian university system; I will endeavour to promote modesty, hard work and a lot of things that will bring out the students’ confidence,’’ Okolo said.
NAN reports that the competition was a “no-bikini pageant’’ that was particularly aimed at promoting the African culture and discouraging indecent dressing among the youth.
Mr Taylor Nazzal, the President of MUN Organisation, said that he was happy to touch the lives of many young Nigerians.
“We can always inspire women out there to be better leaders of tomorrow. They are all potential wives and if you groom them well, you’ve succeeded in grooming the men and the whole world,’’ he said.
Nazzal said that the new beauty queen would be Nigeria’s student ambassador to the United Nations (UN), adding that she would also be engaged to carry out charity assignments.
He also noted that Okolo would represent Nigeria at the Miss University Africa pageant involving 53 countries in South Africa and the Miss United Nations pageant in New York next year.
In her remark, the FCT Minister of State, Mrs Olajumoke Akinjide, said that the pageant was also promoting the government’s vision for the youth.
The minister, who was represented by Dr Geoffrey Chukwuemeka, a Director in FCT Administration (FCTA), noted that the beauty contest also created an avenue for the contestants to exhibit their talents because it was not about beauty alone.
Akinjide said that the pageant also reinforced the FCTA’s goal of promoting national unity and peace.
“It also supports our plans aimed at discovering the potential of our female youth, protection of our female youth and discouragement of indecent dressing, prostitution and other social vices among young ladies,’’ she said.
The `non-bikini’ beauty pageant began in 2007 and its 2011 edition was won by Miss Temitope Olowoniyan of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

Boss: Rooney goals will come

Sir Alex Ferguson insists he has no problem with Wayne Rooney's goal dearth.
The striker has only scored from open play in one game this term, when bagging a brace in the 4-2 win against Stoke City in October. Rooney also converted a penalty in Braga but missed from the spot during the 2-1 win over Arsenal.
The boss believes it is only a matter of time before the England international is firing on all cylinders again in front of goal after he went close against West Ham when forcing Jussi Jaaskelainen to make a smart save.
"Wayne is going through a period like all strikers do," said Sir Alex. "He is not scoring. It will change once he starts to score reasonably regularly. Then it will become better for him. Also, he has missed bits of games. He has been off with tonsillitis. Wayne is the type of player who can't miss games. He needs to play all the time. I am happy with that part of his game [assisting goals], that is fine. If he can contribute to the team's success, then fine. But we would obviously like him to score more."
Any partnership with Robin van Persie is still a work in progress but the manager thinks the team are starting to learn how to bring the best out of the summer acquisition from Arsenal.
"With Robin coming, without doubt he is an up-front player," explained Sir Alex. "There is no question about that. He has experience and now our players are starting to realise how good he is. Hopefully that understanding gets better. There were some games where the way we kept possession was middle to wide, to middle to wide, without using the frontal area. We are getting more aware of the runs he's making and his movement up front."

11-Year-Old Girl Molested By 20 Men: Lawyer Claims It Was Her Fault

A Texas defense attorney used some controversial words to describe an 11-year-old girl allegedly gang raped by 20 men and teenaged boys.
During wrap-up testimony on Tuesday, Steve Taylor, who represents Jared Len Cruse on charges that he joined in the repeated rape and sexual assault of the now-13-year-old girl during a 3-month span in 2010, likened her to a spider who lured the suspects. He said she was “the reason” that the encounters happened, the Houston Chronicle reported.
The Houston Chronicle reported Taylor’s exchange with former Cleveland Police Sgt. Chad Langdon, who was on the witness stand:
“Like the spider and the fly. Wasn’t she saying, ‘Come into my parlor, said the spider to the fly?’” Taylor asked.
“I wouldn’t call her a spider,” Langdon replied. “I’d say she was just an 11-year-old girl.”
“I hope nothing like this ever happens to your two teenage sons,” Taylor snapped back.
The metaphor didn’t help however, as Cruse was found guilty of aggravated sex assault today, ABC News reports.
In the courtroom on Tuesday, the unidentified victim reportedly said “yes sir” when asked if she had been a “willing participant” in the acts, but Langdon testified that she can’t legally give consent for a sexual encounter due to her age.
Testimony in the case of 20-year-old Cruse wrapped up in Liberty in one day, after he declined to testify. He’s already serving a an eight-year sentence on unrelated convictions for aggravated robbery and assault.
The emotional case began after Cruse, Eric McGowen and more than a dozen other men allegedly recorded themselves having sex with the victim.
Two adults, 22-year-old Isaiah Ross and Marcus Porchia, 28, were slapped with 15-year prison terms earlier this year. The six juveniles who pleaded guilty in the case received suspended seven-year prison terms. McGowen received a sentence of 99 years. Most of the defendants — many of whom have individual trials — face charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

A woman who allegedly confessed to her boyfriend that she has sex with dogs and fantasizes about incest has been charged with crimes against nature, police said.

Suspected Boko Haram Bomb Factory Destroyed By Nigeria Army In Zaria

The war against terrorism witnessed a significant boost in the ancient northern city of Zaria, Kaduna state when the Nigeria Army uncovered a suspected Boko Haram bomb factory there, recovering many important items.
Some Of The Recovered Bomb Making Components
The discovery was confirmed by Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman. He said that the discovery followed a Cordon and Search Operation which it carried out with other security agencies in the Kwanar Shahada, Jushin Chiki area of the city.
Usman described the bomb factory as a two-bedroom bungalow, and that there were Improvised Explosive Devices in “stage one state of readiness.”
The operation also led to the recovery of several IED-making materials that include:
•    17 Sensor Mechanical Timers (Remote Controls)
•    11 Primed Suicide Bombers Vests
•    36 Primed IEDs in “Bobo” cans
•    One military kitbag with support items like saw, hammer, cello tapes and guns
•    2 gallons of paint containing prepared IEDs
•    2 gallons of turkey oil brand with prepared IEDs
•    7 rolls of wires of various lengths
•    One bag containing several sensors
•    25 nine volt batteries

Homosexuals Prone To Contacting STDs – Medical Expert

As homosexuality become more acceptable throughout the world with the Nigerian gay community working towards practising their unconventional s*x life freely in a culturally aware society like Nigeria, medical experts have dispelled the rumours making rounds to probably give homosexuality a good face.
There has been rumours on how less likely it is for gays to contact sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and most homosexuals have called it a good reason to remain one. But a medical expert, Dr. Reginald Nwokocha Medical Director of Hosanna Medical Centre, Ketu has said homosexuals are more exposed to STDs than those practising heterogeneous s*x, regarding the claim as fallacy.
“They are more commonly exposed to diseases like hepatitis B and C, HIV/AIDS,” he said.
“For a man penetrating the anus of another man or inserting his manhood in the mouth of another man, it is an open invitation to lots of infections. The anus of any human-being is a dirty area. It harbours a lot of bacteria. And these bacteria when they leave that surface where they are to another, it becomes effective. So you find out that there are a lot of STDs homosexuals are exposed to,” he added.
Speaking to Vanguard news, Nwokocha also said women who lick the vagina of other women are also prone to a lot of diseases. “When a woman does lick the vagina of another woman, it is called cunnilingus. It transmits the bacteria in the mouth into the vagina.”
“Every human being has bacteria in the mouth which causes no harm. But the moment such bacteria leaves that environment to another environment, it causes infection.
“Even when women use hands to fumble with themselves such as fingering each other they can contact STD through this process. The fingers are dirty. It is not true that same s*x relationship is for the avoidance of infection rather it is an open invitation for the contracting of STDs that are not even common or occur in heterosexual relationship.”
Dr Nwokocha said homosexuality is psychological problem developed overtime, adding that “such persons need a psycho-therapist. They need counselling, they need to be made to realise the need for male female relationship”.
